Geez, you know I am really intimidated by 18 year old barrista wearing scarey tribal tattoos and a piercing. I hear those Starbucks folks are really mean and savage.

i think so... when teenaged girls and their soccer moms all sport lady bugs and butterflies on their ankles, hips and shoulders, then the badass image is defunct...
Isn't it great that society doesn't have to mark the losers of society, that they'll do it themselves...? It's kinda like gangsters killing gangsters--a self-correcting problem.

An idiot aquantance of my son’s got a tat of a compass on her lower back. East and West were reversed.

I'd ask the author to define "normal".
I've worked in white-collar, office-type jobs for 20+ years. NEVER met anyone with a jailhouse-type tattoo like that.
People that want to radically modify their body, also need to radically modify their expectations. Not too many CEO's sporting bolts in their ears.
However, I will say that I'm going to get rich off all these tattooed 20-somethings. First company that invents a quick, painless tattoo removal process gets a hefty investment.
