A new 60 Minutes/Vanity Fair poll offers what is, I think, a somewhat misleading way to look at Sarah Palin.
The poll finds that 59% of Americans and 40% of Republicans don't think she'd make an "effective president" -- numbers that come very close to disqualifying her even in the primary, if she chooses to run.
This trouble imagining President Palin is constant across the polling since soon after she was chosen as John McCain's running mate, and it reflects both her own lack of experience and the higher bar set for a woman -- Hillary Clinton did years of carefully projecting the kind of strength Mark Penn thought she needed to show to be a plausible contender. (Holmes and Traister think there's now space for a Palin on the left, but the poll numbers suggest otherwise to me.)
In any case, however, it's possible to adore and follow a political leader without wanting him or her to be President of the United States, or even thinking he or she is qualified. The most frequently drawn parallel with Palin is Jesse Jackson -- popular and respected on much of the left for a time, at least, seen as presidential by smaller numbers.
But the Daily Show's Jon Stewart may be a better example.

I didn't realize the primary had started and she had signed up to run. You remind me of the private potato peeler who is complaining that the sniper, while picking off the enemy, isn't ready to be a general.
Ask me in a year.
By then, I hope Sarah Palin is coming out of her cocoon.
So I take that as a yes.
He reminds me of someone on the Jersey Shore complaining about others being skanks.
Then what do all the worshiping cultists here telling you and everyone else that “Only Sarah” is good enough to be POTUS in 2012. They are working for a coronation here.
Okay. (I hope she’s studying up on foreign affairs on the side, too: we like to elect former governors as president, and as part of the package we like them to bone up on foreign affairs before they are elected.)
I agree with you. It seems though if you don’t want her to be President then there is something wrong with you. I like her, but I don’t feel she would be best for the job. She is however a great asset for conservatives.
No, there are plenty of conservatives who have made rational arguments against Palin. You could try sticking to them, instead of rolling like a dog on a fresh turd when you see a left-wing anti-Palin article.
This must be the poll that CNN was trumpeting this morning.
They knew the results of the poll before they even took it.
Newsweek does the same thing, they have a poll out suggesting Democrats have turned the corner. Both polls would be best used for TP at my cabin out house. I take that back, I would not be willing to use those in my outhouse, might catch something.
The real story here is this...The MSM hates Sarah, there will never be a honest poll on Sarah from any pollster, Not Ras and not Fox either!
If Sarah ran she would easily win the nomination, so shows how much they know.
Also remember that who ever gets the nomination will be demonized by the MSM. And it does not matter that people that live in California,NY and Mass etc hate Sarah, we are not going to win those States anyway.
If Sarah runs she will win enough people over to win, a third of the country plus a few will hate her or who ever runs, big deal!!!
If I was advising her, I would tell her to hold press conferences taking all and any questions. If Today show wants to ask a question, come to her press conference and ask it, none of this taped stuff. This is after the primary
The moment that it became clear that she was not a possible front runner for president, then much of that effectiveness would disappear, that is the damage that these anti-Palin people hope to effect.
..and there you go calling them cultists again when you seem far more obsessed than any of them. You post far more articles about Palin than them put together. You keep her name tops here more than anyone else. Hate to break it to you, but the pro-Palin "cult" as you like to call them, pick up their devotion the more she is attacked. For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction applies not only to physics but to internet conversations.
Now I'll leave you to your obsession as I doubt all of that concept will sink in to you.

These are for you, pissant!!
I’ve made the arguments. Over and over. It was me who posted her cheerleading article supporting LOST, for example.
BTW, the leftwing anti-Palin articles are received as well as the right wing anti-palin articles. Keyword Search - Jesse Kelly.
Five stages of grief:
Politico just went from denial to bargaining.
So why don't you just leave it at that? You are the one dragging left-wing trash into FR, so you undermine your own argument about the quality of FR. Methinks you could care less about FR.
bttt
Just doing my best to stop the coronation. You want FR to be SarahRepublic?
(B-b-b-but...she endorsed her political patron!)
Same here.
When (or if) she is ready, she will need to be able to articulate those issues in depth, not just on Facebook posts.
She will need to be able to hold her own with the editorial board at the New York Times, Washington Post, etc. She will have to be able to face tough questions on Sunday morning news shows. She will be giving serious policy speeches at the National Press Club, etc.
I am glad she is on our team, either way.
