Tonight on your TV show you said that you read the Confederate Constitution and I paraphrase "it had slavery written all over it, all about slavery blah blah blah". You are incorrect sir, I did a word search on the document and the word slavery appears "one" time. Everyone can try it for themselves at the link provided below.

Funny thing about Bob. He was born Cornelius Calvin Sale, Jr, but was adopted by his uncle and aunt, Titus and Vlurma Byrd.
Having the same last name as the famous Virginia Democrat Senator didn't hurt him in politics.

Uh, that’s EXACTLY why I stated that re: the former - because that’s exactly what you have said in the past about the latter.
There is alot of truth to what they stated re: Confederacy. However, I was also waiting for them to tie it together between old Dems and new Dems, which is something “Yankee” conservatives like to do. But they didn’t - because it doesn’t quite jibe.
1 could assert (which I’ve NEVER heard before) that pre-CW black history was erased because of Confed Dems, but how does it tie in with modern-day Dems? Look at why they would erase the history:
Confeds - OK with slavery and wanted blacks segregated.
Liberals today - want the US as a whole to look as bad as possible (note that the ONLY time liberals unequivocally think the US was perfect/inerrant was UNDER REPUBLICAN LINCOLN during the CW; they hate it every other time)
Those are very different reasons. How do they tie together? Perhaps it’s simply happenstance that “progressives” early took over the Dems and found they were able to use the more racist approaches of early Dems in a different manner.
BTW, here’s the point: you should view George Washington as evil because:
a) he had slaves his whole life (yes, he freed them at his death and upon his wife’s death, but still...)
b) he subverted the wishes of a large majority of American British when he prosecuted a war they wished no part of
c) he prosecuted a rebellion to separate from a larger politcal entity
You simply cannot resolve your views of the RevWar/Washington vs. CW/Lee(e.g.). Unless you actually do despise Washington, at least.

Byrd was a Democrat who lamented the rise of the blacks -- to his last breath. Your name celebrates the man who led the armies that tried to preserve what Byrd wished for his entire life.
