I watched this interview (broadcast Thursday, May 27, 2010) and listened carefully for clues. I noted the emphasis al-Assad put on Syria's relationship with Russia: Syria borders Turkey, Turkey borders Russia. Also of note is this globe with some type of wings on top of it behind Charlie Rose. Can anyone identify what it is? According to
this database (NNDB), Charlie Rose is a Bilderberg Group member.

Looks like a globe with a falcon perched on top.

Ahhh, geez. I really wanted to listen to the interview - sounds like it might be interesting, but I just can’t take Charlie Rose’s booooring voice.

Falcons hawks and eagles are pretty commonly used in all kinds of symbolism. Falconry seems to be a major pastime among middle eastern elites.
Other than that I have no clue.

That is wild, I had never heard that (not that I know anything at all about ME elite pastimes!). At least it was cool to see a CR interview outside of his booorrriiinnnggg “roundtable” studio set-up for a change!

Back when the Gulf War II was starting there was a Sikh who was a bird handler for some of the Saudi royals and he claimed to have seen Bin Laden in Afghanistan.
That’s probably not exact but its what I recall off the top of my head.

It looks more like a piece of art instead of the earth.

It looks like the Millenium Falcon preparing to attack the Death Star.
Yeah, I've watched Star Wars too many times.
To: cripplecreek
Yep. My sister-in-law and her ex used to do falconry training in the Middle East.

Seems to be fairly common from north Africa to India.

That is fascinating about falcon obsession in that part of the world. I’m still looking up sculpture and symbols but haven’t seen anything quite like this piece yet! Thanks everyone :-).
