No self-respecting southerner uses instant grits. I take pride in my grits.

Then you must not like jambalaya because it almost always has okra in it. It doesn’t slime if you prepare it right.

You obviously are eating instant grits. I don't think so. Honestly, I love all kinds of Southern cooking, but I never developed a taste for grits.

You need to move to Kentucky, West - By God - Virginia, Maryland, or Missouri. :-)

I know some people that don’t care for them. They can eat them, don’t hate them, but don’t love them. One of my friends(Yankee) puts sugar in them, like cream of wheat. Ugh!

I take pride in mine too, no instant unless traveling and in a hotel room and all that is available is a microwave.

Vinny Gambini: How could it take you five minutes to cook your grits when it takes the entire grit-eating world 20 minutes?
Mr. Tipton: Um... I’m a fast cook, I guess.
Vinny Gambini: [across beside the jury] What? I’m sorry I was over there. Did you just say you were a fast cook? Are we to believe that boiling water soaks into a grit faster in your kitchen than any place on the face of the earth?
Mr. Tipton: I don’t know.
Vinny Gambini: Perhaps the laws of physics cease to exist on your stove. Were these magic grits? Did you buy them from the same guy who sold Jack his beanstalk beans?

I think Laz is working on the Ginger/Maryann thing first. Now that you mention it, that is another of my great concerns!!!

“”Sorry, but grits really suck. “
Okra even more so. “
“Sorry, but grits really suck. I may as well confess.....I serve them at breakfast for punishment.
It’s not punishment unless its accompanied by biscuits and gravy.”
“WHAT THE HECK HAPPENS TO CORN TO MAKE IT HOMINY... STOP IT”

Ya’ll are a bunch of picky eaters who don’t know squat. Corn is good, no matter how it’s prepared.
It’s delicious boiled, fried, baked, BBQ’d, toasted, roasted, lymed, ground-up, parboiled, french fried, raw, braised, seared, milled, dried, chopped, whacked, on the cob or eaten as a nut.
I love my grits with biscuits and gravy for breakfast then a nice hominy soup, aka posole is the best for dinner. Okra is good anytime but best fried in...............CORNmeal!
Ya’ll must eat mussells, eels and raw oysters instead of corn. There’s no accounting for taste, I reckon. ;)

Chortle. Thanks, Laz, for saying "Northern Yankees." I've rarely, if ever, been called a Yankee, without it being preceeded by the obligatory "d@mn."
However, I disagree with you on all the rest (your posts 1&2)
