Tea Party “Contract From America” ignores immigration and other key issues
San Diego Immigration Policy Examiner ^ | February 19, 2010 | Carl Braun

Something calling itself the “Tea Party” issued a manifesto or political platform if you will yesterday and it has many activists upset. Not over what is in the “Contract From America” as it has been called but what isn’t. Namely front and center issues like Secure Borders, Immigration, Second Amendment Rights and Abortion.

While this is a draft document spearheaded by Republicans like Dick Armey, Sen. Jim Demint and a host of other tax protest and citizen activist groups, the “Contract”, unveiled at the annual CPAC, or Conservative Political Action Conference, lists twenty-two topics up for discussion. The organizers hope to whittle this down to a platform of ten by April 15, 2010 and require all candidates for office to sign it or risk the wrath of the voting public in November. Here are the topics or “solutions” that a draft committee presented:

* Stop the Tax Hikes * Commit to Government Transparency * Protect the Constitution * Pass Real Healthcare Reform * Sunset Regulations and Enact Fundamental Regulatory Reform * End Runaway Government Spending * Let Us Save * Let Us Watch * Protect Internet Freedom * Pass an ‘All of the Above’ Energy Policy * Give Parents More Choices in the Education of Their Children * Demand a Balanced Budget * Protect Freedom of the Press * Protect Private Property Rights * Reject Cap and Trade * No Czar Regulation Without Representation * No More Bailouts * Audit the Fed * Stop the Pork * Enact Fundamental Tax Reform * Stop Career Politicians and Curb Lobbyist Power * Restore Fiscal Responsibility and Constitutionally * Limited Government

Iconic talk show host Michael Savage railed against the “solutions” yesterday adding that borders, language and culture, a consistent theme with Mr. Savage for a decade, are conspicuously missing from the document.

It's not the Tea Party then... :-) It was a fake Tea Party that issued that.

Sounds pretty good to me

The right has won the 2nd amendment war with the Heller case. A few more lawsuits and we’ll roll back crazy leftist gun laws.

The other issues are pretty irrelevant to the big picture of fixing the economy and reducing the size of government.

Borders, language and so called “culture” all expand government for right wing statists

It’s **A** tea party and as such is free to define its own issues. Here, they choose to focus very closely on fiscal issue. I don’t think this should bother you. On the other hand, I hope to find a way to personally get involved with the JD Hayworth election for just that reason—amnesty.

Article IV of the Constitution guarantees that the Federal Government will protect us from Invasion.

Well.....how about that?

It is just a suggestion, like the 9th and 10th Amendments. Everyone knows the only part of the Constitution with any meaning is in the preamble: “promote the general welfare...” Clearly, the framers meant that to be a blank check and everything else is just flowery rhetoric.

(I don’t need the /sarc tag, do I?)

This is the Dick Armey effect. I guess the rule of law and our sovereignty are not basic values as reflected in our Constitution. Re legal immigration: When you import 1.2 million legal immigrants annually, most of whom are poor and uneducated, there has to be an impact on taxes and the size of government. 53% of immigrants use at least one major social welfare program.

Hmmm. did it call it self "A Tea Party", did it call itself "The Tea Party", did it call itself "Tea Party".

The sematics of this are going to get weird.

Here's what the article said: Something calling itself the “Tea Party”.

FedupMichigan is a group that seems to try to align themselves with the tea party movement and look like they’re in the right place on some issues. However they also seem to avoid the immigration issue and for some reason seem to want to split the conservative vote in my district.

Their candidate doesn’t look terrible but he has no legislative experience or record to judge him on. The known GOP candidate has everything a tea partier could hope for and a record to back it up. On top of that he’s leading the incumbant democrat by 10 points in early polling and the fedup candidate by 20.

Are you brain dead? Amnesty and the near open borders that would follow would expand the number of Dim voters and greatly expand the power of left wing statists, which is why the left wing statists keep bring the amnesty issue back.

So-called culture? So, you think the US has no culture?

Or, maybe it's your purpose to advance the left wing statists' causes?

Which is why most politicians are NOT INVITED to our local Tea Party (Central Valley Tea Party). Something called “Tea Party Express” tried to take us over. I think it’s a bunch of bureaucrats and scared Republicans who know we’ve got their number. Opportunists - wanting to jump on our bandwagon. We REALLY are grass roots; they are not.

The Fairtax was leading all other issues in voting by a large margin.

It disappeared from the site without a trace.

From FReeper ThePatriotsFlag

Something special is happening with the Tea Party Movement of today. Of course people will try to gain control of it because it is a very powerful source of energy. But the concern that it is “not controlled” and therefore “doomed” is unfounded. It needs not be nor should it be confined ... to a leader, to an organization or to a specific plan. Such activity would nullify the greatness of what it has become to date and could grow to in the future. One needn’t worry ... one only need to join the energy, shun people who attempt its control and allow plans to be spur of the moment. With a leader, there is a target, with an organization, a counter-organization, with a plan, a thwarting of the plan. But as pure ENERGY ... nothing can stop it. Think of it as energy ... join it, and be a part of this historical change-making effort.

Taxed

Enough

Already

Perhaps Mr. Savage's FIRST order of business, should have been to understand what the TEA Party movement was all about.

That's why I'm leading my own tea party of one and endorsing a candidate on my own.

Just a suggestion for fellow tea partiers (and FReepers of course) to consider.

In blue states where conservatives have a legitimate shot, how about you red staters helping us out?

This is just one example but I'm sure there are many more.

In Michigan's 7th district conservative Tim Walberg is leading incumbant democrat Mark Schauer in early polls which is a good thing. However, fundraising has been an issue in a state where the private sector has been decimated and the ACORN/SEIU types have been getting an increasing share of the taxpayer nipple. Basically there is nothing more to give in the places that need conservatives the most and I'm sure democrats have been counting on this.

I hope red state conservatives will take a close look at their races and if the conservative is doing well, maybe you can consider sending a few bucks to blue state conservatives who have a legitimate shot.

When you help a blue state elect a conservative, you help that state stand on its own and more important you help America.

“While this is a draft document spearheaded by Republicans like Dick Armey”

The Tea Party has to disassociate itself with this opportunist, Armey. He’s an open border hack...immigration was left out for a reason! You are being used!

Sunday, February 07, 2010
Beware: Rinos in Conservative clothing...DICK ARMEY

[snip]Time to listen up, Tea Party people!!! We’ve warned you before that political opportunists will hi- jack your movement for their causes! And Dick Armey did just that!

“In a telephone interview with The Arizona Republic, former House Majority Leader Dick Armey, R-Texas, FreedomWorks’ chairman, delivered a surprisingly harsh assessment of Hayworth, with whom he served on Capitol Hill:

” It’s hard for us to believe that J.D. Hayworth could mount a credible challenge to John McCain. Obviously, we’ll watch the race. But J.D. had a fairly short, undistinguished congressional career with virtually no initiative on his part. I just don’t see any reason why we should be concerned about that race.”
So...what is this really all about??

AMNESTY, that’s what.

Armey is one of the squatter support squad of the GOP. He wants to do away with enforcement. He wants amnesty. That’s why he won’t support Hayworth.
In fact, Armey wants to increase immigration!

The McCain camp likes to throw the non issue Abramoff accusation at J.D. of which he was totally cleared, but one of Armey’s top advisers, Horace Cooper, actually got indicted for taking Abramoff bribes. OH! The irony!

Here is the long and short of it:

The Tea Party is not just what you want it to be.

It is not about immigration.

It is not about abortion.

It is not about gay marriage.

It is not about the Department of Education.

It is not about ethanol.

It is not about the Second Amendment.

The vast majority of Tea Party participants don’t even have strong opinions about all of the above. The vast majority of Tea Party participants were not, and are not, politically aware.

The vast majority of people who attend these Tea Party events are people who have just awakened to the idea that politics, and by extention politicians, affect their everyday lives.

I sum up their collective views in these three statements:

We pay too much in taxes.
Our tax money is being wasted.
Our politicians do not listen to us.

When people start trying to hook their own social and financial wagons (immigration, abortion, ending the Fed) to the Tea Party movement, it will quickly dilute the movement and weaken it’s effectiveness.

This is not an all encompassing political philosophy. This is a spontaneous burst of people sick of being taxed too much, of having their tax money wasted, and of unresponsive politicians.

The Fair Tax received the most votes by a wide margin but Flat Tax lovers Dick Armey and Grover Norquist eliminated it from the list and lumped into tax reform. So much for the Contract from America reflecting the will of the people.
