Doug Hoffman pledged to help Dede Scozzafava in an e-mail sent two days after the Republican Party passed over the Lake Placid accountant for the nomination.
The e-mail, sent from Mr. Hoffman's business account on July 24 and provided by the Scozzafava campaign, states in full: "Hi Dede, Congratulations and the best of luck in your candidacy. Let me know if there is anything I can do to help. Doug."
This is contrary to what Mr. Hoffman, who is now running against Ms. Scozzafava as a Conservative candidate, told me less than two weeks later.

The FACTS as verified by numerous interviews with participants in the four candidate forums:
In three of the four Republican meetings, the majority of those attending supported conservative candidates, not Dede Scozzafava
It was deliberate. Even a source that is on their side admits that Hoffman broke his pledge.
Ok, so your position is Hoffman is a liar. He says he’s going to be conservative, and take conservative positions, but because he’s a liar, he’ll end up voting for Pelosi’s leftist agenda. Ok, I guess, I mean anything is possible.
On the other hand, Scozzafava publicly supports most of the leftist agenda. So if I support Scozzafava, I get a leftist. If I support Hoffman, I might get a leftist anyway, because he’s a liar.
Well, that’s didn’t convince me. Unless Hoffman has some type of leftist tendencies, other than upsetting some GOP party bosses, I’ll stick with the guy who is taking conservative positions.
