Doug Hoffman pledged to help Dede Scozzafava in an e-mail sent two days after the Republican Party passed over the Lake Placid accountant for the nomination.
The e-mail, sent from Mr. Hoffman's business account on July 24 and provided by the Scozzafava campaign, states in full: "Hi Dede, Congratulations and the best of luck in your candidacy. Let me know if there is anything I can do to help. Doug."
This is contrary to what Mr. Hoffman, who is now running against Ms. Scozzafava as a Conservative candidate, told me less than two weeks later.

This NY23 thing has turned into a national race.
Duncan Hunter is more conservative, and frankly more ideologically intelligent on economics and policy than Sarah Palin.
Like Hoffman, I wish Duncan Hunter was not such a dud. Does that mean I’m a RINO hack to you?
For a national race you’ve got to have the savvy marketing that Sarah has. Sarah is obviously no dud. She would handle this smear with a simple press release and be done. This guy is flailing about in relatively calm water here.
Because I wish the guy was better suited for the role he has unwittingly thrust himself into does not make me wish for Scozzafavabean’s success, or an Obama lover or whatever you want to reflexively retort with.
I don’t agree with Mojave at all. But I also note that this guy is showing he’s not up to the task the way some people are selling him.

I very pleased that Hoffman had a change of heart about being gracious. He did the right thing. I would absolutely trust him more than her to vote the right way. Her discussions about considering running as a Democrat were far more egregious than his taking a stand and running on a third party ticket. They are not even close.

.. some Republicans are already signaling that they would rather lose the seat than win it with a standard-bearer whom they view as a milquetoast moderate — one who has acknowledged that she discussed running for the seat as a Democrat last month with state Democratic Party officials. She’s also married to a leading labor official in the region ewho has close ties to local Democratic leadership.
And it seems a bit odd that someone who lives approx 2,800 miles away from this district in NY, like you do in CA, are so concerned about this race? And a bit more than odd that you openly support someone whose not only a leftist 'republican', but one who had no problem running as a DEMOCRAT.
