New guidance has been issued to clarify the law on assisted suicide in England and Wales - but it offers no guarantees against prosecution.
Instead the Director of Public Prosecutions has spelled out the range of factors that will be taken into account when deciding on cases.
The move has been welcomed by 33 year old Kelly Taylor from Bristol who is terminally ill.
In 2005 she tried to starve herself in the hope she would end her pain.
"I think the new guidelines are a breakthrough, as it gives people the knowledge when and where they're going wrong and when they could be prosecuted. It also gives people like me greater patient choice."

Why are you being so aggressive Wagglebee?
Suicide is always sad, some cannot be stopped, some can be helped with medication...Clinical depression is as real a disease as any other disease...its scary because those that love the person cannot help them..It affects behavior whereas other diseases don't.
I agree with much you have said.....GG
I read somewhere that the greatest commandant is to love God with your whole heart and soul and the second is to love your neighbor as yourself....Not too much of that on your threads...
***Hello posse, calling me a newbie or noob is Oh so yesterday***
Where did I call you newbie or noob or anything to that effect? I am Mark, not posse. I trust that you would respect the difference.
***There is nothing in my post that would lead you to believe I am not a conservative, but pro-life according to your definition***
How do you know what my definition is? I have not shared it with you. Anyone advocating euthanasia is not pro life by any definition, though.
***So, you consider OPPOSING euthanasia to be a pseud-Christian position? If that is the case you have a serious misunderstanding of what Christianity is.****
No, I consider it to be a non Christian, or anti Christian position. Jesus advocated that we help the disadvantaged, not kill them.
***This is just another ONE POSSE’s definition of Christianity and I love the way you judge others according to your own belief system..***
I am Mark, not POSSE. I have not judged you, although you are starting to post enough information in order that one might be able to do it with surety.
***FYI most of the stuff you posted to me, I never said I would do or believe in....JUDGEMENTAL little christian aren’t you.. Length of time of being a freeper does not automatically make you intelligent nor insightful.***
Advocating the killing of a human being is despicable. And as for the length of time being a FReeper, I might say the same thing.
***I have had lots of freepers than have been on this forum a long time, agree with me on many subjects....these absolute pro-life articles are usually ignored by me as a waste of time...***
Human beings are a waste of time? Interesting. Do you normally spend your time hugging bunnies and other anti human pursuits?
***You brought up starving a human being, I did not, you have no idea what my opinion is on that...why bring it up, just to try and pump up your psychic abilities?***
Because it was in the article and because it was used to kill Terry Schiavo and is a common form of killing. Do you advocate this?
***You brought up pro-death trolls, I didn’t***
Neither did I. Are you aware of whom you posted to?
***But I did seem to hit a nerve with my opinion of some of you being pseudo Christians....Its usually the dog that yelps that got hit with the stone..***
Often, but not always. It seems to me that you are doing the yelping here.
Either you are a member of the culture of death or one of their useful idiots, either way the outcome is the same.
Because I have a long memory and I remember full well how some of these voluntary euthanasia types were all for the murder of Terri Schiavo.
I will not attempt to put myself in this woman's place. I cannot comprehend her pain. I also cannot ever give her or anybody else permission to end their lives. To me, every life is worth living.
Let's face it, life is really hard for all of us. We all have to basically struggle to get through the day. Sometimes other people may have it harder than the rest. We shouldn't be here to tell them “hey you know what, why don't you just give up”.
We are here to be there for each other and to as a society let people know that yes even with their suffering, they still matter. They have to know that there is always going to be somebody around that would be devastated if they were to kill themselves. That person would spend the rest of their lives suffering with grief. So you may be ending your own suffering by killing yourself, but somebody else’s suffering will be just beginning over it. You will simply pass on a legacy of pain, and not end it.
Excellent post!
The rules changed a while ago. It just wasnt posted until now. I remember when our founders stated views were upheld by all the moderators, not just on the Religion Forum. When did they change and why?
All you Catholics knock it off. Stop whining and start posting the truth in Christian posts. If we are not above that sort of petty third grade girl bickering, then we had better simply just get the hell off this forum and sit in our little Bible studies simpering at each other.
Damnation, this is pathetic. Shape up or get off FR. We don’t need this crap.
Just something I’ve been observing for a while now. You may be shocked at what you’ve seen on this thread, but I’m not. I’ve been seeing it for a few weeks.
What are you talking about?

This is worse than pathetic. All Catholic posters grow the hell up or get off FR. This sort of crap is not welcome and not good for the Church.
Why are you insulting all Catholics? And what does your hatred of Catholics have to do with me?

Read the tagline. And read the posts immediately above. I am sick of the charges of the Protestants of whiny Catholics running crying to the mods being sufficiently true to be able to stick.
So you make up rumors to support the false claims against Catholics? That’s stupid.
You’re right, your version is better!

Thank you so much for your words above! You expressed my feelings exactly!
I feel so sorry for the young woman who voiced the desire to end her life. It is a shame she will not see your comments above. She needs to realize that she would be passing on a legacy of pain to her dear husband, family and friends if she were to take her own life.
No newbie, some FReepers just realize that there are other FReepers who are interested in certain topics. This IS a PRO-LIFE forum, that issue IS NOT up for debate.***post 43
No, there are some pro-death trolls on here with long standing records.***
post 43
I don't know why you would call me a noob Post 43 and conveniently forget it several posts later..conveniently forgot you brought up trolls.
Post 43 is signed MarkBsnr
If you are not part of the absolute crowd, perhaps you should consider joining their ping list...(I am not being sarcastic but you defend them and I figured you were just part of their posse.)
If you are said Mark, OK post 43 is yours..if not someone is using a name that is not their.. Read what you posted before answering and saying you did not say something, when it can be checked (post 43) you clearly made those statement.....Good night and God Bless..
