A life not worth living?

New guidance has been issued to clarify the law on assisted suicide in England and Wales - but it offers no guarantees against prosecution.

Instead the Director of Public Prosecutions has spelled out the range of factors that will be taken into account when deciding on cases.

The move has been welcomed by 33 year old Kelly Taylor from Bristol who is terminally ill.

In 2005 she tried to starve herself in the hope she would end her pain.

"I think the new guidelines are a breakthrough, as it gives people the knowledge when and where they're going wrong and when they could be prosecuted. It also gives people like me greater patient choice."

Did Gondring go negative at first? I don't think so.

See Gondring's post 4, which was the very first post to the thread by anyone other than the person who put the thread up and then pinged the Moral Absolutes list. He went on the "you're sick" offensive immediately.

Words have meaning. In a forum where the only medium of exchange is words, you should not accept sloppy reading comprehension any more than you would accept shortchange from a dollar at McDonald's.

..JUDGEMENTAL little christian aren't you.. Length of time of being a freeper does not automatically make you intelligent nor insightful. I have had lots of freepers than have been on this forum a long time, agree with me on many subjects....these absolute pro-life articles are usually ignored by me as a waste of time...

However, your policy of ignorance overlooked this one; so, people are debating your comments. If you believe in your views, you should have no problem defending them or teaching them to others with love, if you are indeed a Christian.

If you want to convince others that you are capable of judging Christian commitment in others, try leaving out the sneering and snarking and refer instead to the moral law in the Bible. It's freely available online.

I’m still waiting for ANY evidence that Christianity has traditionally supported suicide.

The leftist secularist love to bring up Christ’s commandment to love our neighbor as we love ourselves. What they don’t seem to understand is that there is NOTHING loving about killing our neighbor.

Did you notice all the women seemed to have husbands or companions?

Like Terri, they may be under intense emotional pressure to "stop being a burden on the rest of us (read: I want to marry someone fun but am stuck with your illness)".

..Talk about flame wars, that thread was horrible...When I use the term posse for some of these people, I mean it...they have to call in all those that agree with them to use character assassination on their enemy...Defiantly remind me of the Saul Alininsky leftist school of assault....

Your sign-on date leads me to wonder if you are a plant from the Justice Department-funded cybertrolls who have been deliberately sent onto conservative forums to discredit any conscientious opposition to Obamacare. Lots of luck with that Christian forbearance and righteous judgment thing. To some people, Christ is real, the Living God, not a pose taken for political advantage.

If you are actually a private citizen who is a conservative, you will find that you need a thick skin on FR, due to the aforementioned minority who use personal attacks. Learn to ignore them and to debate skillfully for your points. If they have merit to other conservatives, they will be sifted out. If they do not, and you stick with it, you will gain a better education than graduate school.

I believe Mikey Schiavo's exact words (this occurred a few years before he successfully murdered Terri) were, "when is this bitch going to die?" Terrie had a urinary tract infection and he refused to let her have an antibiotic, he thought this would kill her and when she didn't die he said this to several people at the hospice.

I'm pinging goat granny because I'm mentioning her, but I'd like her to keep in mind that I'll be responding to her later.

Well said.........these issues are much more agonizingly complex, especially at the personal level, than some of the simpler minds here would have us believe.

Before I state my position, let me make an observation and ask you just one question.

Observation: Did you notice that goat granny is doing the exact same thing she accuses me and others of doing? Think about it.

Question: Why is it that you folks think you are the only ones who've ever had to deal with tragedy?

Now, let me state my position:

I am not willing to screw up the finest medical system in the history of the world so that you guys can have your way.

I am not willing to screw up the legal system that guards my rights and the rights of everyone I love so that you guys can have your way.

I am certainly not willing to do these things to "solve" problems that only arise in an infinitesimal number of medical cases.

That goes double when many of those problems result from bad case management or family meddling.

That goes triple when we can see that other countries and even a U.S. state have gone down this road and found that it leads to coercion of the sick and vulnerable.

If you want to call that simple-minded, go ahead. It's where I'm standing, and the simple facts--and simple compassion--are on my side.

I've lost count of the number of times I've had someone suggest that I have never had to endure the agony of watching someone I love suffer and die.

Could you please show me the Bible verses that endorse assisted suicide?

This is what I mean by simple-mindedness. I presume you believe in the Ten Commandments (Thou Shalt not Kill, etc.) and also support our military actions which involve killing. You hang your hats on "moral absolutism" and then pick, choose and rationalize to prove your points.

Ah, if only it were so simple!

That goes triple when we can see that other countries and even a U.S. state have gone down this road and found that it leads to coercion of the sick and vulnerable.

I agree that when the government gets involved it is a slippery slope. I don't want the government making these types of decisions. That is where it gets tricky.

I don't know what the answer is, but I would like to see an option for people who are in extreme suffering, have no quality of life and do not want to endure it anymore. In such a situation, I consider it a basic human right to end one's life if that is one's personal choice.

Are you in favor of my right to be a Methodist? If so, does that mean that your support is for Methodism?

Gondring, the Methodist church of Wesley is long, long gone. It was taken over by socialists long ago and turned into a mouthpiece of Marxism, homosexuality and disgrace.

Leaving the UMC after five generations of family was like a divorce in my life -- just soul-searing. But it had to be done. I listened to my pastor(s) promoting homosexual behavior and hiring homosexuals to work with children, listened to their sentimental, unBiblical self-disclosures that passed for sermons, and actually was told by my pastor that there would be no time for me to lead one solitary 60-second prayer on the international Day of Prayer for Persecuted Christians because we had three hymns on the schedule instead of two that day! But watching my little old 98- and 99-year old aunts in the Methodist Home being pawed over by cross-dressing lesbian "directors", who also took the portrait of Jesus off the wall and stopped allowing grace to be spoken at mealtime was the final straw of my decision to leave, even though 3 generations of women in my family had served on the Board.

If you are still a Methodist, get your head out from where the sun don't shine. The national Board of Missions monies are supporting evil works of socialism in other countries.

Amen to that. If anyone would like to hear my tales of death and loss, mark out a couple of days in your calendar and I'll begin.

God does not want us arrogantly believing that our suffering gives us the right to judge others, nor any rights at all. Rain falls on the just and the unjust: He is no respecter of persons. The only goal of our lives must be grace, and accepting that grace with humility.

***Zero SUPPORTS euthanasia, as do you.
You’re wrong again.

I support the right to choose euthanasia.***

How about the right to choose abortion? How about the right to choose to commit incest? How about the right to choose to rape children?

After all, you’re not supporting the actual activity, right?

I am sorry for your losses.

As far as making euthanasia legal is concerned, we have only to look at the many other "helpful" social programs originating on the left to see that what starts out as "helpful" soon turns to a holocaust and often a government-backed compulsory step.

Yes, but I was talking about it being voluntary, not forced. Forced euthanasia is murder.

Other tyrannical regimes in recent history, such as China, have performed forced abortions on young women who already have one child, as an "economic reform."

Again, this is murder.

I do understand the fear of the slippery slope.
