So here I was - taking my daughter to school this morning (She is a high school sophomore) and she was telling me of a discussion she and the other kids were having about Black History Month.
One kid suggested that - to be fair - there should be a White History Month. He was quickly chastised; "Whites don't deserve a special history month due to the racial prejudices they've committed over the years". My daughter related some of the "Rosa Parks" types of incidents as evidence of why there should be no White History Month.
It was early. I was driving and had not yet had my first cup of coffee. And so I was speechless.
Freepers
What would YOU have said?
Then you had no call to be shocked!
Some remedial work is in order. Assign her to 20 minutes a day at Free Republic.
And please know that as bad as it is in public school, it is no better in college. In fact it is worse and MUCH more expensive.
Time to change that, don’t you think?
I wouldn’t have said a thing.
The back of my hand woulda done my talking.
Very depressing.
Just teach history.”
JUST TEACH!!! SOMETHING relevant!!
“Graduates” from high school today are basically unemployable.
Cannot WRITE—They PRINT..Makes me nuts.
Cannot do math—only with a calculator- cannot do math in their heads—at all.
Cannot COUNT OUT CHANGE correctly...Give me a wad of change and bills and walks away —again—makes me nuts.
Cannot dress properly for the interview or for the actual job.
Cannot leave their cell phones- I-Pods—texting devices— in their cars and think they can use them at will during the work day when on the clock...Grounds for instant firing if I am the boss.
Cannot realize that all those metal attachments on their bodies are not attractive to the retail public and to some of us are downright disgusting.
The ‘new bakery owner’ who is interviewed on TV and he has a nose ring and other metal attachments. Shuuure—I am going to buy something Mr Nose Ring baked from scratch!!! NOT!
You all know what I mean.
Teaching today is a 13 year exercise in producing a lemon.
If we had lemon laws on students, the courts could NOT take care of anything else.
Yeah.
Somehow I kinda doubt THAT Black History is brought up during Black History Month.
I would have told her to forget all of it. What we need is a “United States Republic Month”. This would get discussion started with the students and teach them why we are a “Republic” and what we loose if it goes away.
” would have her ask her friends if they did not know about the whites that shed blood during the civil war to abolish slavery? “
Is that why they fought the Civil War?
I thought it was a federal power grab confirming the absolute power of Washington and the lack of any real soverenty of the states.
Public schools and the NEA denigrate western civilization for 40-years and then people wonder why America elected a America-hating Marxist as President. Get your kids away from these haters while there is still time to save their souls.
The real question is whether they believe that all men are created equal.
I had friends in San Diego of Scottish descent. Red haired, fair skinned, blue eyed Scots. Their son and daughter were born during an extended business trip to South Africa. As children of two American citizens, they are American citizens as well. When they returned to the U.S., the kids thought it might be interesting to participate in some activities with "African Americans". After all, they were born on the African continent. They were rejected. It wasn't really a club for "African Americans". It was a club for people with black skin.
“Whats made me so angry in the past couple of years is my realization of the level of black hatred and racism directed toward white people,
after decades of transfer payments, affirmative action, cowtowing to every perceived slight, walking on eggshells for fear of making some racist comment, having to put up with a destructive subculture out of the same fear...”
I don’t really feel like I’m a racist, but I would prefer not to be around black people for all the reasons you just mentioned. Those reasons just fill me with dread when I see them.
I just don’t want to deal with all that nonsense.
It’s just too much trouble.
In my mind there are basically 2 groups, regardless of race, creed, or color.
Group 1 is Us-—my family.
Group 2 is them-—everyone else.
I guess the fact that slavery still exists today in Africa is one reason.
Let’s see. Did they include Idi Amin or Robert Mugabe in their vaunted history?
Didn’t think so.
Yeah, heard about things like that.
I am curious, A white South African, whose family lived in South Africa for 3 centuries, is an African-American by definition, yet they are denied that description by the schools, and government agencies.
Find the America-hating teacher and call for her resignation.
Also, ask if Africans weren’t brought to the US, how would their lives in be in Africa today?
Another Obamabot in waiting.
well that’s what history is. you teach the good and the bad and not one-sided cheerleading for your ‘guys.’
"..Some critics, including the actor Morgan Freeman, contend that Black History Month is irrelevant because it has degenerated into a shallow ritual.[5] Some, like Morgan Freeman, say that it serves to undermine the contention that black history is American history.[6].."
What he said!
Reminds me of a job interview I was giving. The prospective employee was sitting there and stated. “May I axe you a question?” I said. “You use an axe to chop wood.” The interview was over.
