So here I was - taking my daughter to school this morning (She is a high school sophomore) and she was telling me of a discussion she and the other kids were having about Black History Month.
One kid suggested that - to be fair - there should be a White History Month. He was quickly chastised; "Whites don't deserve a special history month due to the racial prejudices they've committed over the years". My daughter related some of the "Rosa Parks" types of incidents as evidence of why there should be no White History Month.
It was early. I was driving and had not yet had my first cup of coffee. And so I was speechless.

They forget that one must have (or at least should have) some leadership ability. Being able to extort other people is not a leadership quality in my book.
I want Greco-Roman Classical History month but I am kind of strange.
How about just having a “History Month” since we are all Americans?

Exactly. At least in Canada they don’t scream about how evil whites ruin the country.

Granted there are Rosa Parks and George Washington Carvers, and then there are prisons with nearly 1 million black men.
Whites have men like George Washington and Billy Graham, we also had John Wayne Gacy and Jeffrey Dahmer and Richard Speck.
You can choose to focus on the good in people or a race, or the bad.
For every black person that deserves praise for what they did, find a white person who also deserves praise. Then continue on with other races.
Liberals look for wrongs all the time, and find wrongs in everything. Thats why they are always angry.
If a person looks for negatives the become negative. A person who looks for positives becomes positive.
Everyone brings joy into a room. Some when they enter, others when they leave.
Which are you?

As others on this thread have said, I’d be much happier if schools would just teach history without having to segregate it by month. But if February must have a theme, I would suggest renaming it Civil Rights Month. The struggle for civil rights, particularly for black Americans, is an important part of the American story and should be studied. But by approaching it in the way I’ve suggested, perhaps we could tell the WHOLE story, giving credit to people of all races who helped bring about the monumental advancements this country has made in civil rights - and not divvying up our American heroes by skin color.
I'm for an English-American History Month. No, seriously. Every group in America--including the Celts--has a legitimate dual identity, consisting of a hyphen, two flags on the mantle, a funny language no one else can understand, and a Sacred Motherland somewhere halfway around the world. The only ethnic group in the country that doesn't have a seat at the multicultural table is the English. And not only in America; in the United Kingdom as well, while Irish, Welsh, and Scottish nationalism (and even Manx and Cornish nationalism) are strutting proudly down the street waving their flags, English nationalism--heck, English identity--is said to be "racist." The English aren't supposed to exist. The English are supposed to be the unhyphenated British.
Another problem is that Englishness is the only ethnic identity in the world that is somehow inherently "un-American." The United States of America only exists because our ancestors didn't want to be English any more. It is the only identity excluded by the very definition of "American." What would our Founding Fathers think of an American who celebrated English ethnicity? (Well, Alexander Hamilton, a Scot, might sympathize.)
I know that this post, satirical as it is (though the points it makes are 100% true) will be hooted down. But everyone else has an ancient "motherland" their ancestors came from. I wish I had one.
Of course the real answer is to simply convert to Judaism or Noachism and learn Hebrew. Instant ethnics, and Biblical to boot!
