So you finally know what happens to Harry. All our questions are answered. Or not. What are your reactions? Whose death hurt the most? Do you want more, and about whom?
SPOILERS are ok on this thread! You have been warned!
Wow. It's over.
What a sweet thing to do! Our Wally World isn't 24 hrs., so we couldn't do the 'early bird' thing there. I'd ordered an 'adult' version and a "Special Edition' kids version from Britain, and those would not have been in before yesterday, and I didn't want to have to fool with the 3 hour party at Borders, after pre-ordering, so I had just planned to go out early on Saturday to the Tarzhay, which opens at 7am.
I was out doing errands on Thursday, and heard on the radio that the Price Chopper grocery stores, which are open 24 hrs. would be selling the books starting at midnight. I needed some groceries anyway, so our youngest son and I went there just before midnight, he hung around near the front where they said to stand if you were waiting for a book, and I did my grocery shopping. We were out in twenty minutes with the book AND food!
Our daughter went to the Borders party with friends, even though she hadn't pre-ordered a book. She had fun, though. Turns out, I was the one who ended up reading the book first! I read through Chap. 12 before I gave up at 4am, then I finished it late Saturday afternoon.
True, but at least Percy came back to the family and was reunited with Fred before it happened. It was sad reading about him laying over Fred's body, trying to protect him further.
Didn't think about Minerva, but I DID wonder what happened to Luna. Maybe she continued in her father's footsteps, running "The Quibbler".
Heh...speaking of social commentary, notice that about the first thing that happened once the Dark Lord took over the Ministry was that homeschooling was banned? ;-)
*snort* LOVE your tagline!! I’m convinced that people do that because they can’t tell their subjective from their objective!
What was that supposed to represent in the background of King’s Cross?
And Neville totally surprised me taking up the role as Freedom Fighter......
I REALLY liked Luna by the end. It was her courage that bucked up everybody else to ward off the dementors. I hoped she and Neville would make a match of it.
I assumed that was Voldemort. Wasn't that sort of how he was described after the first attempt at killing Harry went wrong?
I LOVED that part!
Except for Neville, who is Professor Longbottom, teaching Herbology; fitting.
Also, it occurred to me, just before I read your response, that the name is French, so, of course, she would be Bill and Fleur’s daughter.
My sister was convinced that Harry would die, for the same reason; she considered him a ‘Christ’ figure. But I’m thinking he didn’t really die because he was still being afforded that protection from Lily, and he was going, undefended, to save his friends. He had a ‘near death’ experience. ;o)
Given the French-iness of it, I guess Bill and Fleur.
Also, did anyone get the impression that there were a couple of place where she insinuated that Bellatrix and Voldemort had been lovers?
Yup, thought the same thing here.
I didn't care for that part, but it seemed a reasonable way to go. After all, they REALLY didn't know what they were doing. I think it makes the reader feel the way the character feels (we're spinning our wheels, what are we doing, lets get to the action!)
I'm glad that the blue eye in the mirror didn't turn out to be Dumbledore who came back in some stupid way. It was fitting that it was Aberforth instead.
The worst deaths for me were Hedwig and Dobby. I expected people to die.
Neville coming out of the tunnel was my second favorite part (after Mrs. Weasley yelling at Bellatrix).
Oh, I got REALLY teary when Harry and Hermione read the sign at the house in Godric’s Hollow and the comments left there by people. That was really great.
Remember Mad-Eye could see Harry through his cloak, so it wasn't quite as perfect as the legend claimed. One of the unanswered questions of the epilog is whether they ever went back to recover the eye and give it a better burial, ideally with whatever was left of Mad-Eye in the aftermath.
