But there were no more official aurors, as the ministry had fallen.Once a Marine, ALWAYS a Marine.
I don't think you will ever 'get' it. It's a calling.

With the certain exception of murtha, no Marine would feel they were doing the best by their children to let someone less skilled lose and die, where their training would allow them to prevail and insure a safe future of their baby, even if it meant certain death, and said baby would have to be raised by the hand of another, but raised in freedom.

They decided it was better for the baby to grow up an orphan in a free world than with both parents in a world dominated by fear. Exactly. I think they knew, as you said, that had the war been lost, they were done for, and probably Teddy as well.
But I think they would have had larger regrets if Voldemort had been defeated and they played no role in that.

ONZ, that’s funny!
I have a picture of my late Agnes sitting with her front paws and nose on top of “The Iliad.”

Your profile is a little thin, (cute kids, though!), from your statements I'd guess that you have no family members in the Military.
People who volunteer to risk it all for this country are cut from a different and finer cloth than you or I.

I can give JKR a pass for killing off Lupin and Tonks and Fred...but Joss Whedon et al had no right to kill Wash.
*snif*
That was just wrong!
To: SuziQ
She said it was like seeing someone in an "Eggar suit". Eggur! It was a family tradition to shout "Eggur!" everytime Edgar had a scene in 24. Still is, actually, every time we hear that name. Eggur!

She is said to have written that last chapter/epilogue before she wrote the books themselves. She wrote BOTH the last chapter and the epilogue years ago, or just the epilogue?
To: RosieCotton
Nah, Fred’s death was way worse than Wash’s.

One of the saddest parts for me was when Snape wanted Harry to look at him when he was dying. He wanted to see Lilys eyes one last time was the way I saw it...like he didnt believe he would be going on to the same place that Lily did. I have heard that interpretation elsewhere, and it certainly makes sense. However, when I read it and the chapter following, I interpreted it as Snape asking Harry to see the real Snape as he viewed the memories in the Pensieve, not the Snape he had known at school.
To: JenB
I kind of expected one of the Weasley’s to go. I thought it’d be Percy, but it wasn’t as much of a total shock.
But I still get teary-eyed over Wash. That was so absolutely unnecessary. Absolutely.
To: Lil'freeper
Considering I just hijacked it for a coupla posts, I don’t think I can condemn you for anything. ;-)

Is that like the bug (Vincent DOnofrio) in an Egger suit?Exactly!

Starting in Book 1, JKR makes a point of having characters say, "he's got Lily's eyes."
Lily was the one good thing in his life, and Snape wanted Lily's eyes to be the last thing he ever saw.
Now that is a tragic ending.
