So you finally know what happens to Harry. All our questions are answered. Or not. What are your reactions? Whose death hurt the most? Do you want more, and about whom?
SPOILERS are ok on this thread! You have been warned!
Wow. It's over.
I assumed it was his family reunited, too.
So who do you guys think got the reprieve? Hagrid?
Yes. I really thought he was a goner when the spiders got him.
I enjoyed it thoroughly but it was bittersweet knowing that there will be no more adventures to follow. It’s going to make a really, really good movie!!
I thought it did drag a bit, it could have been tighter but I’m glad it wasn’t “too short” because that would have been a disappointment.
It turned out exactly as I predicted, Snape good, Harry victorious and alive, couples matched as predicted (I would have liked to see Luna in the epilogue, however) and several hard but necessary deaths. Hedwig, Dobby, Fred and Lupin and Tonks were sad, but I’m glad she didn’t kill Harry, Ron, Hermione or Neville. I would have liked a little more Draco redemption but I think Jo handled it well with Narcissa saving Harry and we did catch a glimpse of him in the Epilogue.
I wonder who she decided to “reprieve”. Now maybe she’ll tell, since the book is out!!
The Scholastic website has a clip of Jo Rowling reading the first chapter of the book at Friday midnight in London. A friend of ours attended. You can see it if you go to the site, I believe it is still up. The kids and I came home from the bookstore Friday night (I had pre-ordered through Amazon to receive it in the mail Saturday) and we watched the clip so we went to bed with the first chapter read by Jo ringing in our ears!
But all in all, it was a great book. Now I can get back to my painting project!!
I loved the book, it was the best by far, but like a lot of people, I feel like the epilogue wasn’t complete....No mention of Luna? Of Mcongell? George etc?
Other than that..great book, worth the wait..
Took me just over 12 hours straight, with minimal interruptions, to finish the book. Rose is just now finishing it... I handed it to her when I finished it last night at 12:30, and she stayed up all night reading it.
Some of my reactions:
Biggest surprise for me was that Snape had known Lily from childhood.
Deaths that affected me most, Remus and Tonks. I really wanted them to have a happy ending, and I actually found it a bit more heart-wrenching to have it happen "off-screen".
Really neat moments for me, Ron facing his own doubts and fears as he destroyed the amulet, and Neville pulling out the sword and killing Nagini. I always suspected Neville would have an important role to play in destroying Voldemort... after all, he *could* have been "The Boy Who Lived".
And speaking of the Horcruxes... am I mistaken, or was each one destroyed by a different person?
The first, the diary, was destroyed by Harry;
The second, the ring, destroyed by Dumbledore;
The third, the amulet, destroyed by Ron;
The fourth, the cup, destroyed by Hermione (not sure about that one, have to wait until Rose finishes the book to check it)
The fifth, the diadem, destroyed by Crabbe's fire;
The sixth, Nagini, killed by Neville;
and the seventh, within Harry, killed by Voldemort, and of course Voldemort effectively killing himself via his rebounded Death Curse against Harry.
(by the way, I found the "child-creature" in the background of Harry's conversation with Dumbledore to be reeeealy creepy!)
Note for later; I’m about up to page 200 :-).
Ted was a Muggle born wizard.
I don’t believe Hermione never disenchanted her parents. That was her intention from the beginning, and there was no reason not to.
Yes... he had a couple of close calls, but I really thought he was going to buy it when he fell off the motorcycle.
That was another one of my favorite parts, when they turned Kreacher. His clean ear hair had me roaring.
I did, too. It was one of those, brace yourself, Hagrid's bought the farm moments.
What I hated in the epilogue..Dracos's receding hairline. achhhh! I can't imagine that white blond Narcissa/Lucius hair, ending up with a Donald Trump combover in a few years..Aaaah!
Also, his kid's name..when I first saw that in the spoilers, I didn't believe it..Scorpius? Wasn't he a bad guy who wanted to take over the world (Homer and the family moved away so Homer could work for him) in a Simpson's episode more than a few years ago.
I had a somewhat similar experience: I went out Saturday morning to purchase a copy. First I went to the closest Wal-Mart, but they had apparently sold out and never bothered to restock the shelves, they didn't have a single copy out. Then I went to a Borders Bookstore and found a huge line that they were forcing customers to wait in to get a copy. I decided not to wait. Left there and went to the closest Target store, found a display rack full of copies of the book right at the checkout counter, was in and out with a copy in less than five minutes.
Oh, and Target's price was less than Border's, too. :P
Oopsie, I thought he was hated cuz he was a muggle born muggle, but I gues the Black Sisters hated him just cuz he wasn't a pureblood.
I think I was confusing him with Molly's cousin the squib/muggle or something or other accountant, or something..I better go check the Lexicon.
Heh, his and his father's names were taken from the names of constellations, Draco the Dragon and Scorpius the Scorpion. I guess it was a continuation of the Black family tradition of naming children after stars/constellations (Sirius, Regulus, Bellatrix, Andromeda...)
If you honor his memory. You must return with them to Vulcan. Only there can they both find peace.
Er.....
Oh, I hadn't thought of that, but I think you're right!
It is perfectly possible to produce further adventures without going beyond the basic set. Eventually there will be books in between, although by other authors of the authorized kind.
There are other constellation names I would've preferred to Scorpius. :o) On the other hand, with a name like Scorpius, the gryffindor kids can tease him.."Nanner, Nanner, Scorpius, the Porpious" or maybe, "Scorpius, the dorkius" if they want, too. Yes, I know it's spelled Porpoise..
