the path that the FR community seems to be on is a road to the political margins, and irrelevancy. I love it. Being pro-life and pro-gun are now the political margins and irrelevant.
Do you think that maybe, JUST MAYBE, the real problem is with people like you who think CORE VALUES NO LONGER MEAN SQUAT?
Do you understand that Reagan pulled Democrats over BY RUNNING ON PRECISELY THESE VALUES?
Do you realize that Rudy and McCain would SPLIT THE PARTY BECAUSE THEY DO NOT SHARE THEM?

Gorby wasn't part of the Reagan administration. But keep keep making up strawman arguments; it's amusing.

My gawd, Peach.
You are comparing problems for the former aids of a former president TO SOMEONE SEEKING THE PRESIDENCY!

Thank you my friend for your well written post. It is a warning shot that everyone needs to heed.
Like I asked last night -- where is the good Conservative candidate that can win? Leadership that can unite the splinter groups is missing.

And I'm pretty much to the point where I'm considering avoiding these threads because participation in discussions about the 2008 nomination race on FR is increasingly becoming pointless at best, and counterproductive at worst. I've been avoiding them .. it's way to early for all the *itching about who will win and who won't
I'd rather focus my energy on paying attention to the stunts the Dems are pulling
That we can do something about at the moment ... or at least try
But hey .. whadda I know

This goes both ways.

I did refute the chart -- Rudy is not for gay marriage for one but is for civil unions as you will find a good number of Republicans are. He has been rock solid in saying he is not for Gay Marriage. I would have to go back and research the rest but not worth my time since some folks cannot tell the difference between civil unions and gay marriage.
When I have the time to do the necessary research with sources, I will post exactly where Rudy stands on every issue today not in the 1990's!

And like I said - how the heck can Rudy win when he won't be able to hold the party together? Well .. that will be decided when the primaries come around and the people decide who they want the republican candidate to be

Hello? Which part of this don't you get? Every politician at some point or another has had aides who have embarassed them and/or gotten into legal trouble. Even Reagan. But keep pretending you don't get the point.
Oh, and I'll note, you trash Rudy on every thread but when someone points out that Reagan couldn't get elected by you purists, they're trashing Reagan and terribly offensive to your little widdy bitty sensibilities. Grow up.

You completely miss my point (probaby because you don't want to hear it). Conservative ideals are not irrelevant, but conservatism is rapidly becoming irrelevant as a political force because of the lack of a viable leader to embody conservative principles, and without that leader, conservatism will lose every national election for the foreseeable future. You can hug your guns and promote the pro-life position all you want, but if conservatism continues on a path where it is diametrically opposed to pragmatic politics, you will lose, and lose badly. You'll become irrelevant.
Your apparent inability to even comprehend what I'm talking about shows how critical the situation is becoming.

No, there is a post missing in the 230s and #247. They don't say "removed by moderator", they are completely gone.

in fact wrote the mod and told him to keep it up about calling us gungrabbing abortionist because I want anyone that reads these threads to see the nastiness of the commentTell you what. You FIRST clean up your act. I've seen you throw plenty of low blows yourself, such as saying that pro-lifer organizations don't want Roe overturned because it would dry up fundraising. As well as your completely unprincipled attack on Tommy Dale the other day. And others.
And then, if the attacks keep coming, ping me over and I'll rip into the folks myself. However, I don't take sides in a two-way mudfest.

We've got time to turn things around and put forward a more acceptable candidate, but that's not going to happen if people like you are so willing to throw in the towel now and start actually promoting the most liberal major Republican presidential candidate in history.
Post of the day!
Thank You

I have seen a few posters tell the Rudy-Rooters like areafiftyone, they don't belong on Free Republic. That is wrong. The point that so many of Rudy`s backers are missing, is a simply one. Most of us came to Free Republic to support, promote and advance the conservative agenda and at the same time oppose the liberal agenda. Before 9-11 occured and Rudy Giuliani got all that positive press, everyone understood that the former Mayor of NYCity was a liberal to his core values and beliefs. What has happened since then to change Rudy from a liberal to some conservative hero is lost on most FReepers. Rudy gave NYCity some uplifting leadership in the fatremath of 9-11. Rudy was a hero to NYCity. Great. That doens't make him a conservative. Not today, not tomorrow and not ever.
