The Candidate (Rudy Giuliani in NH)
The American Spectator ^ | 1/29/2007 | Philip Klein

Posted on 01/29/2007 1:36:27 PM PST by Dark Skies

Many skeptics continue to question whether Rudy Giuliani is serious about making a run for the White House, but it was abundantly clear on Saturday that he had come to Manchester for more than the sub-freezing temperatures.

Addressing over 500 activists at the New Hampshire Republican Party's annual meeting as part of a two-day swing through the state, Giuliani sketched the broad outlines of what looks like a presidential run. Sounding at times like a motivational speaker, Giuliani cautioned against cynicism and pessimism in the wake of November's election results and challenges in the ongoing War on Terror. The message especially resonated with the audience in this critical primary state, where the Republican Party just lost control of both chambers of the legislature for the first time since the 1870s.

"The best way we remain safe and we retain our freedom...is remaining on offense, remaining strong and not becoming weak in a time of pressure," Giuliani said in a line that drew the biggest applause from the crowd at the Palace Theater.

I do not think we will ever see eye to eye on this, so there is no sense in continuing the flame wars. Its more then likely your community will try to get everyone who does not agree with you purged. A very foolish thing, you might not understand how that could possible shake out.

If I am not here I will be somewhere doing what most here just talk about, using my prosperity, contacts, acumen, and political activity to make my opinion actually mean something instead of all the vacuous activism that spews from the minds of the self appointed keepers of real conservatism.

FREEREPUBLIC isn't free if all sides cannot be heard without retribution, It would be better named CU 'CONSERVATIVE UNDERGROUND'.

Perhaps, it really doesn't matter if I can affect change I will, if not, well it becomes what it becomes.

I don't like unfairness in any form anywhere but this is a private site so Jim's rules rein supreme, I will just reiterate that I think it is may not be in his best interests to be associated with some of the stuff that has been getting spewed around here lately thats all.
I think it would be great if he told EVERYONE to shut up and try to rein in the hostility, instead he plainly took sides. But it is his site.

..perhaps there is a hope of "self-governance", which is a conservative political ideal--as opposed to the "nanny state" left who wishes to regulate all of the wrong things which inhibit a free and healthy society...

Just what is "my community?" I'm an individual.

I'm not trying to get anyone purged. In fact, if there is any group who has attempted purging, I would suggest that among the Giuliani supporters there might be more than a few of that mindset.

This debate isn't about "true" or "real" conservatism.

This is about your basic garden-variety conservatism, of which, Mr. Giuliani is sadly lacking.

Now, you disagree...fair enough...but what I agreed with Jim Robinson about is that spewing liberalism in order to defend a liberal/moderate candidate ought to be out of bounds, or at least in bad taste, on a conservative website.

How do I spread liberalism, when I say things like executive experience, tough on WOT, sound fiscal policies, constitutional judges, social issues belong at the state level and the POTUS can't do much about them.

I think you know its the last one that gets a small faction here foaming at the mouth. I can't help that, I think its sad.

I see you are Newt supporter and thats great. Now both Rudy and Newt have been divorced but the same people who say Rudy is unacceptable because of that, will give Newt a pass, so I am sorry as a rational person I found this kind of thinking quite flawed.

I did check it out. I realize this is Jim Robinson's site and I respect that. But I do also understand that Rudy Giuliani is a legitimate candidate for president and I think that we should give all the candidates a fair shot and not be torn apart like we committed some sort of crime. I wonder what will happen with the Romney threads or McCain threads ? In the future will the posters be told they can't post either because they are considered RINOS and not true conservatives? I'm just curious?

But be that as it may, I cannot argue with Jim Robinson because he makes the rules and I signed on agreeing to follow them. I respect Jim Robinson and always have a great time here. So far I have NOT been told NOT TO POST any Rudy threads. But Mr. Robinson, If you prefer that we do not post any Rudy posts since they seem to be against the rules we respectfully will not but please tell us in no uncertain terms that Rudy posts will not be tolerated and I have it in good standing by quite a few Rudy freepers that all the Rudy people will leave and go somewhere else to post about Rudy if you say we cannot post here. Just say the word and it will be done. I am not here to cause you any grief. We respect your rules. I am deeply saddened by this (I am being serious - no pun intended). But I'm glad this is finally out in the open. Please let us know. Maybe you can post something to everyone so whomever is on the Rudy ping list can know this and will not make any mistakes. I'll make sure they get to read your post.

Hydroshock, Tommydale, ReaganMan, dirtboy, Spiff, Liz and others I may have missed who have made it very difficult to even say the word Rudy here on this forum You have gotten what you wanted. I hope it was worth it. And I wish you luck with your choice for president.

You can't say "Clinton" on this forum without getting jeered either. Funny that...

It will be worth it when Duncan Hunter wins the nomination. Which I sincerely pray he does.

I don't think you should give in to these children, they couldn't wait to reply and mock you, it is shameful.

You should send what you wrote to everyone.

I wasn't referring to you specifically. Jim had replied to another poster, and was dismayed by his/her posting history, which was peppered with liberalism.

I sent it to the Rudy ping list. At least they will be aware of what might happen. I feel responsible for them and don't want any of them to get in trouble for posting against the rules.

BTTT, areafiftyone!

People should go back and read JimRob's vanity before the Nov. elections. This site is founded on conservatism but winning in Iraq, winning the WOT is the most important issue of the hour. Every social conservative's favorite topic is secondary to this war brought to us by Islamofascists. Because if we don't win, nothing else matters.

As far as I'm concerned, the real debate is over who would be the strongest CIC.

What makes you think Rino Rudy will be the best CIC, when if he is nominated he will split the party and ensure a rat win. Not everyone believes the war is number one, I for one believe abortion is. More Americans have died in the past month then were ever killed by terrorists.

Oh buy the way yes you are an individual and I should acknowledge that, LOL! I was on some of those 'hot threads' and I think I know who the poster is and I would have to defend them as they were defending arguments more then they were spouting liberalism, it goes fast and furious The 'themes of liberalism' are bound to come up and can easily be taken out of context or the individual just doesn't get it. It appears the favorite tactic is to incite and name call until the person fights back and gets a warning or if you win the game get banned.

Its the most ridiculous thing I have ever seen. The poster was losing an argument and hit the abuse button for harassment, just envision that in a presidential debate, he's winning, make him stop, LOL! how pathetic but again private site and it appears some posters have special immunity or are more equal then others, THAT smacks of Animal Farm not the conservatism I know, its very wrong. Ultimately whether Rudy is discussed here or not he is likely to be in our future I am not worried about it.
