The Candidate (Rudy Giuliani in NH)
The American Spectator ^ | 1/29/2007 | Philip Klein

Posted on 01/29/2007 1:36:27 PM PST by Dark Skies

Many skeptics continue to question whether Rudy Giuliani is serious about making a run for the White House, but it was abundantly clear on Saturday that he had come to Manchester for more than the sub-freezing temperatures.

Addressing over 500 activists at the New Hampshire Republican Party's annual meeting as part of a two-day swing through the state, Giuliani sketched the broad outlines of what looks like a presidential run. Sounding at times like a motivational speaker, Giuliani cautioned against cynicism and pessimism in the wake of November's election results and challenges in the ongoing War on Terror. The message especially resonated with the audience in this critical primary state, where the Republican Party just lost control of both chambers of the legislature for the first time since the 1870s.

"The best way we remain safe and we retain our freedom...is remaining on offense, remaining strong and not becoming weak in a time of pressure," Giuliani said in a line that drew the biggest applause from the crowd at the Palace Theater.

That issue was left unsettled at the time the city election was being run from what I gather.

There are lots of accusations and rhetoric out there that should be ignored.

As far as claiming I am a porn spammer, it was a hidden link for a rather innocent looking logo that showed up as the word SPAM with a typical red circle/line over the top.

If it was a hidden porn site or soemthing of that order, I had no idea at the time I posted it. It checked out fine when I previewed it.

I do not condone porn for any reason. I have too much respect for this forum to do something like that.

isn't Park Avenue South considered to be "downtown"

No, that is "midtown." Downtown is around Wall Street, at the base of the island, where the city began.

I understand what you're saying...I just hope and pray that there is another candidate who can beat Hitliary and the horror she represents.

I don't like any of the current candidates...Newt was a pig towards his wives, Brownback and Huckaby are kowtowing towards the appeasers, Duncan Hunter has no chance on Earth, Tom Tancredo has no chance.

What we need is a miracle from God, a Reagan sort of candidate who will come forward and run. I'd love to see someone like Fred Thompson or Dick Cheney run, but it ain't gonna' happen.

My girlfriend was born and raised in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn, her Mom was a precinct worker, and we went back and forth to NYC during Giuliani's reign, so I got to know NYC's politics pretty good, and Giuliani WAS a hell of a good mayor.

He broke the back of the mob. Even as a prosecutor when he went after the five families and broke their connections to the construction, waste hauling, and garment industries and drove them out of the Fulton Fish Market.

He cleaned up the horrible subways, drove down crime, cleaned up Times Square and made the city a wonderful place to live again.

BUT he had personal peccadilloes like his disgusting treatment of his wife, Donna Hanover. True, she is a relentless V Monologues liberal who treated him rather shabbily, but he taunted her with his mistress and tried to run her out of their home.

And he is a very liberal Republican. He saw nothing wrong with outlawing handguns and was a hero of the abortion industry.

I just cannot conceive of myself voting for a man who is so far to the left, even though I loved him as NYC's mayor.

Ed

Wiki isn't always all that accurate, but perhaps you have cherry-picked the info.

I well remember discussing fluoridation, with my parents, and what I had heard about Birchers, as a child. I know that it was long before Dec. 9, 1958, because not only was I at boarding school at that date, but we no longer was living at the place I well remember talking about the fluoridation hysteria.

Suddenly its irrelevant because you made a false statement, you claimed it as fact when it isnt.... I was merely trying to assist you in your elusive quest for accuracy!!! Take your meds!

I wasn't talking about the entire electorate, I was talking about the voters in the primaries, and they tend to be the "base" of Republicans who support the 2nd Amendment and believe that abortion is murder.

The candidate the primary sends forward tends to match the beliefs of the old, presumably outmoded Republican Platform.

Hey TD...Rudy is pro-war...that's what matters when you are on the front line.

Just wait...you'll see.

The troops want to win. You put forth some little "conservative" that can't win and leave the troops hanging...

You'll see who they support when they come for YOU.

Yote 3rd party Tommy...I'll join them when they come for you!

Rudy didn't know about Kerik.

Kerik was his DIRECT BUSINESS ASSOCIATE.

Rudy PUSHED KERIK TO BE HEAD OF DHS.

That BLEW UP IN BUSH'S FACE.

AND NOW YOU CLAIM RUDY HAD NO CULPABILITY?

IS THIS THE KIND OF DENIAL OF RESPONSIBILITY WE CAN COME TO EXPECT FROM THE RUDY CAMP?

Rudy is pro-war...

He's so pro-WOT that he pushed a crony to be head of DHS ... with no vetting, apparently.

And that blew up in Bush's face, and that's how we got Chertoff, who has been a disaster.

But Rudy has NO CULPABILITY FOR THAT.

You brought up the issue of Guiliani's position on gays not I, afterwhich in response I spoke about his position on gay marriage, and civil unions, which I do not agree with. My main problem with Guiliani is that he is not a conservative, and he and I disagree completely on social issues.

You have completely mischaraterized my posts which were a discussion of his stand on the issues and my reasons for not supporting him, and have nothing to do with "bashing" Guiliani or liking or not liking gay people. Once someone has proven they cannot have an honest discussion, the discussion is over.

Never been in management, eh?

Gimme a frikken break?

Rudy might be loyal...hell, I'm loyal. But do you honestly think a US District Attorney would hide this crap?

And it was petty crap!

Surely you have watch "24" enough to know better.

I agree. I see the same appeasement towards Muslims as I do towards homosexuals, where its becoming a hate crime to both criticize a Muslim and criticize a homosexual.

The liberals think that by empowering the Muslims Christianity will be destroyed, and the Muslims love the help of the "useful idiot" liberals, but believe once they've taken over the liberals can be easily set aside...

Each one thinks they'll succeed, and each one is deceived. I only wish America hadn't become so willfully stupid, we are causing our own destruction.

I don't know Ed, when the primaries are over and if he is the only candidate left standing, I will vote for him. There is no way I will give this country over to full Democrat control in this dangerous time we live in.

This is a case where voting your "PRINCIPALS" might get you killed as well as countless thousands or millions of other people.

Never been in management, eh? Gimme a frikken break?

Kerik wasn't a fellow manager.

He was a BUSINESS PARTNER OF GUILIANI.

Had his NAME NEXT TO RUDY'S ON THE STATIONARY.

Rudy PUSHED HIM TO BE HEAD OF DHS.

Apparently WITHOUT VETTING HIM.

Rudy apparently is more interested in GETTING HIS GUY APPOINTED than MAKING SURE HE WOULD NOT EMBARASS THE PRESIDENT.
