"If Sangaya wins...
There's no danger of that."

I meant, if he wins tonight. Beats Sundance. Goodness, I certainly hope he won't make it any further than next week. He never should have made it to Hollywood. Ugh!

BTW, Jonny. I like the pic of Carrie with that hilarious Santa in fatigues. Very cute. Wish it wasn't Flash player so we could grab the photo.

I didn't slam Kelly at all. All I said was that she wouldn't allow use of her music on AI. That's it.

Phil reminds me of a medical patient. Thin, pale, bald, dark circles under eyes.

"Plus she is skinny as a rail. She just looks sharp and edgy all over. Nothing soft about her.

And we like our wimmin soft in the USA"

Considering the obligatory, skinny, boney Ann Coulter pictures, I think the men's taste on this board might be a bit different than the men I know. LOL

"Wait till Rush gets a hold of this...how much do we already give to the world? Think W will give them some medal?"

YOU ARE NOT BEING TAXED FOR THIS. It's called charity, even if it's done for publicity. You don't have to watch the show, you know.

I agree. He really does look sick.

Don't intend to get into a pissing contest with you, but you posted that negative comment -- which happens to be FALSE -- when the talk on thread was about Carrie's performing.

Oh, and BTW, you're welcome...I'm so pleased you graciously acknowledged my honesty in saying you were right re Carrie's USO trip, as well as my providing a link to pics of the trip.

That wasn't all. You suggested that Kelly was an ingrate.

To: Lijahsbubbe
Kelly Clarkson said Idol couldn't use her music. Nice gratitude, eh?

I went back and watched Melinda's performance from last night again. She interests me a lot, because she's so clearly miles ahead of anyone else in this year's competition. Seriously. She's a consummate pro who knows stage craft and how to sell a song in the good, old-fashioned sense. The others contestants are all amateurs and are hopelessly outclassed by Melinda on every level, even though several of them are talented.

It's almost as though a 28-year-old Judy Garland or Ella Fitzgerald were plunked down in the middle of amateur night. Talents of that caliber and polish would always outshine even the brightest young amateurs.

So I wondered what Melinda's background was, and why she needs AI to reach stardom. She has a bachelor’s degree in Commercial Music from Belmont University in Nashville. She has a very successful career as a backup singer, having performed on the stage, on tours, and on recordings. She's recorded backup vocals for albums by Aaron Neville, CeCe Winans, American Idol's George Huff, and others.

She is also a vocalist with the Music for the Soul Christian music ministry. Here's a link to a page that includes her photo, among others. She has sung the lead on some songs for the music ministry.

In researching Melinda, I came across a reminder that, during the audition phase, she told the judges she liked being a backup singer because that was her comfort zone. She also said that a year ago she was hoping to become a backup singer on American Idol. What made her take the step of auditioning as a contestant instead of as a backup singer for the show has never been revealed as far as I could determine. But I wonder if she tried out as a backup singer for this season, and someone connected with the show encouraged her to audition as a contestant instead. We'll probably never know.

Anyway, apparently she really has had to work at overcoming a painful shyness. Judging by comments about her awkward physique on AI boards around the internet, that may very well be the source of her shyness as some folks here on this thread have already observed. In any case, she's been hiding a great talent in the background for years, and I'm glad she finally decided to take the risk of coming to the forefront.

Although she should walk away with the win this year, I suspect her core audience is older than the tweens, teens and very young adults who are the show's core audience. I can see the kids and young adults gravitating toward Blake, Chris Robinson, and Gina, while the vote for the "divas" is split.

If this were the 1940's I'd have every confidence Melinda would win. But this is the era of rythmic talking (rap) being considered music, and no-talents being famous just for being famous. So who knows what will happen.

Good research. She is gifted and she's going to the top. Genuine.

This is the first season I've watched Idol. Now my husband is hooked.

You first season of Idol? Too bad, cause you have missed the best. This year is really weak, except for Melinda, LaKisha, Jordin, and Chris S. Having watched them all, I have to warn you to expect the totally unexpected, like Suckjaya getting through tonight. There have been several girls over the seasons who were phenomenal but got cut anyway. Now the hard work begins for Melinda and LaKisha in relating to the whole audience and showing their chops while the younger ones struggle through unfamiliar genres. They keep saying it's a singing competition, but it's much more than that. As the pressure builds you really see who has the character and the stamina to be up every week. I'm gonna miss Sundance, damnit! I thought he'd last a few more weeks. These pretty boys with breathy voices don't do a thing for me.

Me too because they never stick around to see how the money is mismanaged.

Precisely.

Furthermore, with all this money and resources going to Africa for decades from this country WTF do the country's of Africa do for their own people? Why does everybody else have to bail these people out from the thug dictators and socialist prix that let their people starve to death in the first place?!

Why are these people always poor and starving? Africa is RICH in resources, is it not?

Paula: I'm speechless. This is supposed to be a singing competition. ... No offense to Sanjaya."

I literally fell out of my chair when she said that! The look on Sanjaya's face was simply priceless...Hail to the 13 yr old, teenie boppin', closeted gay vote.

You might be right about Melinda trying out for backup and being sent to the judges. Lots of good info in what you posted.

Antonella Barba Offered Sex DVD Deal 3/9/07

http://www.celebrityspider.com/news/march07/article030807-10.html

The wannabe pop star at the centre of American Idol's latest scandal has been offered a lucrative deal to front an adult video company.

Bosses at SugarDVD.com have offered sexy Antonella Barba $500,000 to work as their new spokeswoman when her stint on the TV talent contest ends, according to TMZ. Antonella was voted off the show yesterday (MARCH 08)

Barba, 19, who hit the headlines when saucy photos of her posing for friends hit the internet last month (FEB07), is expected to be voted off the show tonight (08MAR07).

SugarDVD, the largest renter of adult DVDs online, also made headlines recently when bosses offered socialite Kim Kardashian $1 million for the rights to a sex tape she filmed with ex-boyfriend Ray J.

And we got Chicken Little last year. And Mikala Gordon the year before... I never thought I would say this about these 2, but at least they were ENTERTAINING!..Sangaya is not only a poor singer, he just leaves you feeling a little bit icky after watching him. Chicken L. and Mikala at least every once in a while could surprise you. I've never liked the Sangaya, even in the audition rounds.
