WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Vice President Dick Cheney's pregnant lesbian daughter Mary will make a "fine mom," President George W. Bush said, sidestepping his past comment that a child ideally would be raised by a mother and father.
Mary Cheney, 37, and her longtime partner, Heather Poe, are expecting their first child, which would be the sixth grandchild for the vice president. Cheney was hired last year as an executive for America Online.
"I think Mary is going to be a loving soul to her child. And I'm happy for her," Bush said in an interview with People magazine.
And you can't post her exchange with Chico Marx on a Family website. ;-D
I guess these guys would pass yours.
I don't know the exchange -- please freepmail it to me. In exchange, I'm off offering this quip by Oscar Levant:
I knew Doris Day before she was a virgin.
Best post of the day.
Spend less time worryiing about who's ^&^%#E who, and pay more attention at teh fact that the Feds are (^&%#^%# all of us.
Levant was the best.
Had it not been for his participation in it, the movie of George Gerswhin's life would have been boring.
You are evading the question, imo. Slavery was legal in the early America. You seem to be arguing for a return to those times - or even earlier. Are you in favor of a return to the laws (all of them) in the 1700's? And no, women were NOT treated well in colonial times. Don't even try to go there!
What you don't seem to understand is that homosexuality WILL become more and more accepted - and yes, I have no problem with homosexuality. It is part of nature and has been around as long as humanity. I see no *homosexual agenda*. I am amused by those who believe 2% of the population is so powerful that they are somehow going to destroy western civilization.
He was extremely talented, but kind of a waste. I put him in the same category as Kurt Cobain or Basquiat. Never reached full potential because of personal demons.
BS. Women were highly regarded, and equals in life. LIfe has diferent roles for men and women.
I am not fixated on sodomy as you and so many others are, I do however, see the FACT that the Founders understood that politics would corrupt religion, and religion corrupt politics.
Having said that, I no more want to return to a time when slavery was legal and sodomy was punishable by death, than I do to the time when Jim Crow laws were rampant, and women could not vote.
I don't like moving backward.
Of course they were. They just couldn't own property, inherit wealth, etc.
Well...Islam enforces a punishment for sodomy that passes your conservative test.
Does it not?
Yes, women could and did own property and inherit wealth. I regret to see the PC schooling recent generations have afflicted you with.
Ain't that the truth!
"(Which you would know, if you've ever read about the history of English law. Ever heard of Blackwell?)"
Yes. Mr. Blackwell is the very gay man who has his "worst dressed" list of celebrities every year.
You are trying to say Blackstone, as in William Blackstone, the author of Commentaries on the Laws of England, published in the 1760s. You are in NO position to be lecturing anyone on their knowledge of the Common Law.
And the thing that's funny as hell is, I've corrected you on this before. You just can't keep it straight. :)
Not true. Women were considered *property*. They were beaten. They were raped. They could not own property...etc etc
Perhaps that is what you *purist* types are really after - a return to colonial times - where blacks are slaves and women are about the same?
And let's not forget the witch trials and the burning of supposed witches at the stake. Do you want to go back to that as well?
Was it not Jefferson who actually lowered the penalty for sodomy in Virginia?
andhthey swear they are not homophobic - afraid of homosexuals :-)
Women are beaten and raped even today -- when it happens it is wrong. When it happened then it was wrong.
I'll repeat: women can and did own property.
I am sad for you, a education gone to bad seed, obviously. A mind fallen to the modern PC, deconstructionist and Marxist revisonists of history. As you live and breath, though, wou can go about curing your own affliction. Head to a library and read some books and periodicals written in the period you are interested in.
