Bush: happy for Cheney's gay daughter pregnancy
Reuters ^ | 12/15/06

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Vice President Dick Cheney's pregnant lesbian daughter Mary will make a "fine mom," President George W. Bush said, sidestepping his past comment that a child ideally would be raised by a mother and father.

Mary Cheney, 37, and her longtime partner, Heather Poe, are expecting their first child, which would be the sixth grandchild for the vice president. Cheney was hired last year as an executive for America Online.

"I think Mary is going to be a loving soul to her child. And I'm happy for her," Bush said in an interview with People magazine.

Hey, didn't your boy Francis call us all "queers?"

hmmmm?

So, you want government to pass laws on who can and can't get pregnant? Why stop with lesbians, why not restrict the poor out of having kids, since, statistically, they have more of a chance of being raised in a bad environment. Or, anyone with any family history of an illness that may shorten their life. You wouldn't want to have mommy or daddy die of a heart attack when junior is only a few years old. And, how about a maximum age for pregnancy!

Theocracies don't work, I suggest you move to one, you might be happy living under that kind of system.

I'm guessing you are really into your home owner association.

I'm sure it would have been far preferable if she was an unwed welfare mother or a crack whore who passes her kids off to her tricks.

(Gasp! Infringement of rights!) What about the rights of children? To have a father and mother? To be brought into the world without defying the laws of nature?

All well and good in a perfect world, but how are you going to go about enforcing this? Have a law forcing physicians to give out sensitive medical data on their patients? Have doctors force patients to fill out a form that would in effect make patients more likely to lie?

Remove all children from homes with single parents? Where will you put them? Is an abusive "Christian" home better than the best possible gay parent? A gay friend adopted an older troubled child and is providing that child a home 100 times better than any foster family.

Or are you suggesting all assistance with fertility be banned?

Or worse, a home schooler that teaches the kids that science is evil and that creationism is the only way.

Child abuse!

ROTFLMAO. The mental picture that paints fits so perfectly! Someone with a clipboard taking notes on whose Christmas lights are left up one day beyond association regulation.

At least the Taliban have cool beards, not sure what Jeremiah has to offer on the style front.

Where you at in Hawaii?

I get over there a lot, love it. Did a Big Island trip and a Kauai trip a few months ago. Give me a quiet starry night in Kaapa any time.

Oahu, aka "The Gathering Place" (or what it really means - "The Crowded Island") We can see the West Loch of Pearl Harbor if we look out the right corner of a bedroom window. Every island has its beauty, but for a residence I prefer Oahu - I like the access to city culture and shopping (not to mention a job for my husband).

I like the diving on Oahu, not the crowds or the traffic!

I'm a retired airline guy, and we now do 4 cities in Hawaii from Phoenix.

Next month, when the flights are empty again, I'll try a 3 day weekend again. But, a trip to Keo's resturant is worth a trip to Oahu.

Is McCabe's beach club still open on Sand Island?

That would have been the appropriate response and the moral one, but that would have taken courage.

Okay, I'll be real clear. I am not advocating, nor have I ever advocated, that children be ripped away from anyone. But to deny children the potential of a mother and father right from the start is anti-nature and the ultimate of selfish.

Single mothers should not be allowed artificial insemination. I am opposed to any technical methods of fertility, but that is a separate issue.

Homosexuals should not be allowed, by law, to foster or adopt children. If they beget children naturally, that's their business. The studies overwhelmingly show that children raised by homosexuals have a wide array of difficulties. Until recently all states had laws preventing this and such laws should be reinstituted.

Everyone has an anecdote, they mean nothing.

Yeah, but what if they are closeted homosexuals?

Like, oh, say, Ted Haggard?

And where the hell does the government get the right to decide who is gay?

Honestly, you want a theocratic government that invades into the privacy and libery of its citizens. I hear that Tadjikistan is real nice in the spring.

Its none of your damned business, nor is it the government.

And you call yourself a conservative?

Agreed on the crowds and traffic. I work from home so I can time when I go downtown. My husband sets his own work hours so he only has to deal with the drive home and can stop by Tripler to swim so he misses the worst of it.

We have friends in Phoenix that get out here occasionally. He's some high mucky-muck engineer with the DOT who could set some of the idiots on our city council straight about timing stoplights and the like to improve traffic.

Where is Keo's? I haven't heard of that one (and we've been here over 10 years now). Not sure about McCabe's - I care for my dad now and before that we had more parenting duties so I don't get out as much as I might like.

Keo's is a Thai resturant on Kuhio, its amazing.

As for McCabes, it was the place I went to so that I could sit on the beach with a beer and not have a single tourist near me. Just remember, don't fly Go!, they are an evil airline, run by a complete idiot. I gotta get out there again, I used to go every couple of months, it gets in your blood.

Glad to hear you would have deprived two blue states (California and Hawaii) of two very conservative voters. Both our kids are to my right politically. We wouldn't have either without a little pharmacological assistance.
