WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Vice President Dick Cheney's pregnant lesbian daughter Mary will make a "fine mom," President George W. Bush said, sidestepping his past comment that a child ideally would be raised by a mother and father.
Mary Cheney, 37, and her longtime partner, Heather Poe, are expecting their first child, which would be the sixth grandchild for the vice president. Cheney was hired last year as an executive for America Online.
"I think Mary is going to be a loving soul to her child. And I'm happy for her," Bush said in an interview with People magazine.

I feel exactly the same way. It's very sad to be raised without a father. Dads are so critical to a family unit. Especially, as you pointed out, if it's a boy. What a shame.

Your post is a good example of vacillation.
Are you a literalist or not?

She will, more than likely, make a wreck of her life and that of her child. The end result of her life's choices is that, unless she turns from her sin, she will die and be cut off forever from God in hell. Well she is already 37 :-) and has been in a lesbian relationship for 15 years. One would think she would have made a wreck of her life by now. When do you think she will? :-) When she's 50? :-) 75? :-)
This thead reflects well Mark Twain's sentiment:
"You go to heaven for the climate. Hell for the company."

"Such as When to Stone Your Children."
If a man has a stubborn and rebellious son who will not obey the voice of his father or the voice of his mother, and, though they discipline him, will not listen to them, then his father and his mother shall take hold of him and bring him out to the elders of his city at the gate of the place where he lives, and they shall say to the elders of his city, 'This our son is stubborn and rebellious; he will not obey our voice; he is a glutton and a drunkard.' Then all the men of the city shall stone him to death with stones. So you shall purge the evil from your midst, and all Israel shall hear, and fear.
Points to note:
The Hebrew "ben" or "son" usually denotes an older son as opposed to a young child. The fact the he was a "drunkard" confirms this.
This must be something the mother AND father agree on - preventing an arbitrary decision by a vengeful parent.
It was to be something the judicial system agreed to "the elders" preventing it from being any sort of vigilante action.
It was seen as a deterrent "and all Israel shall hear, and fear".
Hebrew tradition shows that this particular punishment was never actually carried out. Apparently the threat of it was enough.
While the Bible must be read as a whole, New writings interpreting and surpassing old, this passage promotes the following societal values:
The authority of parents over children.
The danger of drunkenness, debauchery etc.
The overseeing power of the judicial system
The use of the death penalty as a deterrent to crime
I believe The Ghost of FReepers Past also did a fairly good job of addressing your question in a global manner.
If you are offended that the Bible would allow a son to be put to death for rebellion and drunkenness, would you be interested in seeing a passage where a son is put to death for being good and obedient?

This is Bush at his finest. I dont give a sh** if they impeach him.

"One would think she would have made a wreck of her life by now. When do you think she will?"
I agree. She has already made a wreck of he life. Now that she's being paraded around by the gays as the posterchild for gay marriage she's doing far more damage, and helping wreck more lives then if she just quietly lived out her chosen life in private.

I'm not sure what *normal* means anymore Some people think 'normal' means daily regularity. But doctors don't use that term much around me.

She has already made a wreck of he life. You and I must define *wreck* differently :-) Mary Cheney's present and future looks quite bright and happy to me.
Oh my, so even Mark Twain is *going to hell* if you have anything to say about it :-)
It only shows all the more the wisdom of his statement:
"You go to heaven for the climate and hell for the company."

You're right. Perhaps he was taken off-guard. If so, then Josh Bolten is not doing his job. President Bush primarily concerns himself with the war, but his Chief needs to have him prepared for all the questions the slimy press is planning to trip him up with.

It appears there are plenty of judgemental Christians here to cast stones at Mary Cheney.I am not a Christian...
These two women are perverts engaging in a heterosexual fetish of having a child...
The poster of the article is a liberal and is only here to throw sh*t at the Christians...

Being a poster child for an abnormal, societally destructive lifestyle is not success, no matter how large her paycheck may be.
"Oh my, so even Mark Twain is *going to hell*"
Actually my reference of being a moral relativist was directed at you. You seem to have no problem with M. Cheney's lifestyle - in fact you went on to call it "bright and happy".
If you can not see anything objectionable about gay marriage and artificially induced lesbian parenting then you are, in fact, a moral relativist - i.e. one person's choice of morality is just as good as another's.
That is the very antithesis of the conservatism that this site promotes. FR is explicitly opposed to homosexualism and the gay agenda.

he said the right thing here - our side is being baited over this issue, into personalizing it. The Dems saw how the michael j fox incident played, and would like to repeat it.
some people here just can't let go of this.

this issue is not about gay marriage, and its not about gay adoption either. those are public policy issues.
this story is simply about a woman who wants to have a baby. HER OWN BABY. you disagree with her sexuality - fine - what exactly do you want to do about the fact that she wants to have a baby? abort it? have the government seize the baby and force it into a foster home - you know, a good home with two loving religious parents, like Andrea Yates had.
To: PetroniusMaximus
It is conservative to *live and let live*. It is theocratic to attempt to control other's choices.
It seems to me that those who shout about *moral absolutes* are generally those who *absolutely* want to dictate to others what their *morals* should be.
