No Giuliani, No McCain
Petition Online ^ | Dec. 14, 2006 | Andrew Longman

Posted on 12/15/2006 7:22:32 PM PST by FarRockaway

To: The Republican Party

I am a Christian conservative or social conservative. I am Pro-Life. I vote.

Rudy Giuliani is pro-gay, pro-gun control, and pro-abortion.

For these reasons and others, I state very firmly that I will not vote for Rudy Giuliani for President of the United States under any circumstances.

Senator John McCain has waffled on human cloning, has supported experimentation on human embryos, and has attacked prominent Christian clergy because of the, "evil influence that they exercise." John McCain has said of Pro-Life voters, on a public broadcast radio show, that they are, "otherwise intelligent people who say that that's the only issue that will determine their vote." McCain told the San Francisco Chronicle, "I would not support repeal of Roe v. Wade."

For these reasons and others, I state very firmly that I will not vote for John McCain for President of the United States under any circumstances.

Sincerely,

Since the 2006 election cycle ended, FR has turned into flame wars between single issue factions who don't think a multi-issue conservative is "conservative enough" because he/she doesn't emphasize their issue above the other conservative issues. Why can't we have conservativism at all 3 levels - foreign, fiscal, and social? What is sadly taking place here are the various factions trying to bully each other.

{McCain will lose because of his position on Iraq}

Rudy stands behind President Bush on Iraqi. Also, Rudy campaigned proudly for Talent and Santorum. Hillary would attempt to link Rudy to Bush's Iraqi policy and other red meat conservatives.

Rudy has more running room on Iraq than McCain does. Rudy has said less. He has not come out in favor of sending in more troops.

You said -- "Your as yet unsupported assertion was that "Christianity" called the LDS a cult."

Apparently, it's only unsupported in your own mind...

Somebody wrote an essay a couple of years back, that what you noted is why WASPS still have a leg up in getting elected POTUS, even as their percentage of the population slowly shrinks. WASPS have more religious "freedom" in a political sense. They have so many sects to choose from, or can just be deists, and few really mind, because they are not violative of their declared faith. They can't use the "a" word and get elected though, in most places, even if an adjective is appended.

Yup, I think that's true. The point I was trying to make about Rudy and Catholics is that a large majority of pro life Catholics were Reagan democrats who have made the switch, they now vote in Republican primaries. And they vote their because of the social issues. Your point is a good one that puts emphasis on why I don't think Rudy can beat McCain.

In 2004, liberals sneered at some Catholic clergy who made a big fuss over sKerry's pro-abortion record. Come 2008, the same liberals will praise the clergy should they complain about Rudy's social issues stance.

I think it's important for all of us to focus on the fact that if we don't win the war against terror, we won't have to worry about any of the other issues...because we won't have a country or a way of life to defend. I wish everyone could read Frank Gaffney's book, "War Footing," and gain clear insight into what we are really facing. We don't have the luxury of fighting about the usual stuff. We need leaders who are tough (and we should (under no circumstances) take the bait of publicly picking them apart and exposing them before our enemies. I pray we will all give constant thought and say daily prayers for our troops...for their victory as well as their safety. GOD bless our troops. GOD bless the United States of America. And GOD bless our allies -- especially, Israel.

Isn't there a reason for party primaries?

Yes. Its the MSM's plot to destroy Caucuses and the party Grass Roots. Only Big Money and Big Media then rules...and guess who has that...
