To: The Republican Party
I am a Christian conservative or social conservative. I am Pro-Life. I vote.
Rudy Giuliani is pro-gay, pro-gun control, and pro-abortion.
For these reasons and others, I state very firmly that I will not vote for Rudy Giuliani for President of the United States under any circumstances.
Senator John McCain has waffled on human cloning, has supported experimentation on human embryos, and has attacked prominent Christian clergy because of the, "evil influence that they exercise." John McCain has said of Pro-Life voters, on a public broadcast radio show, that they are, "otherwise intelligent people who say that that's the only issue that will determine their vote." McCain told the San Francisco Chronicle, "I would not support repeal of Roe v. Wade."
For these reasons and others, I state very firmly that I will not vote for John McCain for President of the United States under any circumstances.
Sincerely,
[Limit the size of gov't, cut taxes, and fight the WOT like WWII. Then the social issues will take care of themselves.]
DITTO THIS!
Newt
Someone tell me, please. Why is it that after elections that just handed our ass to us, do we promptly form a circular firing squad around the (admittedly less-than-ideal) Republicans who are actually beating the Democrat frontrunners in polling?
Just substitute Dubya's name, and every ideological imperfection, real or imagined, that was hurled at him at the time, and this post wouldn't read a bit differently than a random one for January 1999.
Guys, I'm ready to start living in the Age of Diminished Expectations. All I give a rip about is keeping that hideous ice queen's mug out of the history books and off my television screen for the next decade!
Mike Pence, Jim Gilmore, Frank Keating are three better than Rudy-Mitt-McCain.
Giuliani and McCain are FAR more conservative that anyone the Democrats will run.
Yes, it's to con the rank-and-file into believing that the candidate of their party is the one most of the rank-and-file wanted as their candidate.
In reality, the hidden powers that give us Bushes and Doles and more Bushes and more Doles can buy up the best advisors, the best consultants and the biggest advertising, access to the GOP fundraising and GOP mailing/phone lists in order to turn the process into one year-long coronation.
The grassroots *can* halt the coronation but only at the risk of a divided party that will probably lose in November.
Remember Bret Schundler in New Jersey? He got the GOP nomination for New Jersey governor in 2001 - about as true a conservative as you'll find in New Jersey. He upset the Rove -anointed RINO and the Bushies promptly took their ball and went home rather than help the candidate the grassroots chose. Schundler, of course, lost with no national support.
They then did the same thing when their handpicked RINO didn't win the primary in California a year later. And you saw how they savaged Katherine Harris from the beginning of her senate bid.
From these ranks come the people who might run for president. See how this works? Or doesn't work?
Hear Hear!
Newt can't win either. No way.
The Rosie O' Donnell wing of the Republican party had better stop throwing crap at the religious conservatives...
So say you. The early polls tell a different story, and I realize early polls are mostly name recognition.
I have no favorite at this juncture. I like to see ALL candidates in the primaries.
Hear hear. But alas, the GOP establishment appears to have given up on anything even resembling limited gov't advocacy. The last GOP candidate to make it the centerpiece of his campaign platform was Reagan, and of course he won in two landslides.
My tagline says it all...
Exactly right. The media savaged him long ago.
He's as tattooed as Quayle.
If Julie-annie was so content to have Mrs. Clinton remain as his senator, why the hell should I trust him???
[You have to base your decisions on the world as it is, not the world as you want it to be.]
Oh?
Tell that to Reagan, Churchill, Lincoln, and GW Bush.
They all said 'to heck with how it is, here is how it ought to be' and they pursued it. And they did it.
Who's with me?
TANCREDO.
Believe.
No to McManic, Obama, and Hilly. None have Americas best interests in mind.
I won't vote for Rudy or McCain in the primaries. The liberal media has declared them as our candidates because THEY like them.
If it comes down to Rudy or Hillary, I'm going to have to hold my nose and vote for Rudy. I don't even want to think about having to choose between Hillary or McCain.
Who or what are you talking about?
Energy would be better spent getting a grass roots movement behind someone people can support who have the same values as you...
The cold hard fact of politics is that personality gets airtime and airtime gets votes.. simple as that.. We need a strong voice for these values.. someone who can get the airtime of McLame and Rudy...
Condi anyone?
