So it's your contention that I'm not a "thinking person" in spite of voting Republican?
I'm not talking about you. I am ranting about a lot of people, many of whom said that they were protest voting.

Some people here are Republican first and Conservative second, I'm not accusing you of being one, but I'm not either.
I should hope not. I was a member of the NY Conservative Party before being a Republican.

I think all politicians are basically dishonest or scoundrels. I may be wrong occasionally but I'm right far more often. And I think that if seeing congress in a deadlock for a few years is the price I have to pay to remind the scoundrels ostensibly on the right who it was that brung em to the dance, I say so be it.
I believe that clean up time is during the primary. It can happen at election day only if there is a better candidate.

It's not like I can do anything about it now anyway except encourage the people still remaining to move further right or it could be them next.
This is not the lesson the media and much of the party establishment is explaining.

You sound like you belong on DU. The world hasn't ended. The world won't end until God Almighty decides it will and you need to deal with it. I've found in life that sometimes when what you think is the worse thing has happened it was really for the best. So get over your negativism and defeatism and get ready to fight the grassroots fight.

I agree with most of that, but maybe God wanted this? I don't know, maybe I'm being too Pollyanna-ish, but this might work out to be a good thing in the long haul. 2 years of Majority Speaker Pelosi and the rest of those clueless clowns may have a very profound effect on people. But I'm not going to let it upset me. It's only 2 years.

Take care now.

Hmm... here's how I see it, if it helps.

You buy a new refrigerator. You're happy with it. Thanksgiving is next week, so you buy a bunch of good food and beer for Thanksgiving Dinner and invite all your friends and family over to celebrate. The night before the dinner, your refrigerator breaks down.

Now, obviously, you're p***ed about it. And rightfully so. Your plans for the next day are ruined, the food's gone, and, worst of all, the beer's warm. To put it mildly, you've got a right to swear a little - who wouldn't?

But when it comes down to it, you can keep on cussing and kicking things (like the Democrats would), or you can fix that fridge and make new plans for the next day. Republicans fall in that second category, FReepers definitely fall in that second category, and I knew you'd fall in that second category as well. After all, that's why we get to win in the end. ;)

And I'm sure that most around here will do so as well. That is, after all, the spirit that makes America great!

If my kid threw a tantrum like this I'd smack the hell out of them. Grow up.

And you would get my vote for the best mom in the world.

Then again, don't you realize that the godless-homo-marxist are in charge now?

Republicans need to be pro-AMERICA.

What would probably be the most pro-America in the long run would be to abolish the minimum wage laws and abolish the welfare state, cut the unnecessary federal agencies and get rid of regulations covering things that are not explicitly enumerated as the domain of the federal government in the US Constitution. In other words, return to constitutional governance and get rid of extra-constitutional things.

However, I don't see us doing anything but repeating the mistakes of civilizations past that will lead to our eventual destruction as a sovereign nation. In my opinion, the US isn't even a free country anymore. You are basically owned by the government.

"So you think the country wants what the Democrats are selling?" They voted for it. Perhaps you noticed.

They sure did, but I do have to wonder if they really knew what the democrats were selling? I doubt it very seriously. They just watch the news and they haven't a clue. My opinion, anyway.

...we'd have put a mighty fear in the hearts of our opponents in Iraq, and would likely have crushed the resistance.

Taking the results of that strategy a step further, we might have dangerously stirred up a hornet's nest in the whole middle east.

We sure couldn't count on our "faithful friends" on that side of the world to join us in fighting off Iran and Syria, e.g., along with the terrorist organizations this region has spawned.

Aside from risking that outcome, which I fear would worsen the whole ugly mess, I'm with you 100%.

Far from it, if you're basing your opinion on the message. TexasPatriot8 comes over as a true conservative.

Most of us here are as disappointed and disgusted as he is but we simply are not going to fall apart over this outcome. We should not act like reeds that bend every time a wind blows. We can't view this loss as the end of the world. It's time to borrow some pages from the notebooks of those who let their thoughts and voices be heard...loudly and clearly.

With every anti-conservative idea which Congress considers, we have the power to pick up the phone and/or get out the paper, postage and envelopes to tell our representatives what we expect from them.

If we conservatives don't like what we got, it's time to stop complaining among ourselves and take action.

Too late. By being on Israel's side in this last summer's war, if for nothing else, the hornets are indeed stirred up. There's really nothing we can do to calm them, even the moderates among them hold grudges for at least seven generations. What really motivates them is weakness, however. And we're about to show weakness to an enemy that is without civilized morals. The Nazis would have been more generous with us, had they prevailed in WWII.
