I just spoke to someone at the information desk there (717-531-8080) She told me that, "the Amish don't participate in things like that and doubted that a fund would be set up"
I'll post it on the thread when it becomes available. The poor lady, Amy, that I talked to sounded pretty frazzled. She had been dealing with the media all day. She did say a lot of people are asking to help too. She seemed relieved that my question was simply ...how can I help with medical expenses?
She said to keep an eye on the news for the information in the morning.

I was thinking the very same thing mplsconservative! My seven year old son sleeps soundly tonight in his warm bed and mothers, fathers, sisters, brothers and a community mourns the most senseless disgusting act I've ever heard of in my life. Shaking my head in disbelief. I have just had it with the assault on our children day in and day out. I'm going to get down on my knees tonight and pray to God.

I am just going to jump in here after reading only 1300 posts or so....
This is tragic on so many levels. It is tragic that the shooting happened. It is tragic the shooter couldn't just kill himself he had to take others with him. It is tragic his wife came out in support of him and thinks he was a good man. It is tragic I don't believe for a minute this man was a good husband and father and this woman is lying out of both sides of her mouth. It is tragic that many men and women too, hate the female gender and take it out in violent ways. It is tragic that some blame the adults that left and we don't know if the shooter didn't point a gun at their pregnant belly and tell them to go. It is tragic that a few young ones were lost that are lights to the world and scum still brings darkness. Sorry for the long post, I have been reading responses for the past couple of hours and it is practically unbearable the amount of pain that is expressed here. I will keep this close, it is the Amish 9/11.
I visited a middle TN Mennonnite community and learned of their mission work in Europe. At times, I envy the peace they appear to have in life. I'm very sorry this tragedy touched them.
Gray, my friend, I think the person you spoke with was misinformed. I know for a fact that funds have been set up in the past to help defray medical costs for a member or members of the Amish community.
I know it was done in Dover a few years ago when a drunk driver hit an Amish buggy and fled the scene, leaving 3 teenagers with injuries to fend for themselves. One of those young men is now wheelchair bound and the bills were astronomical. I know I contributed to that fund.
Thank you EBH. I see by Graybeard's post right before your's, that this might not even be in line with the wishes of the families.
Please keep us posted. I want to help these people in any way I can.

We have a large region of Amish in southern Indiana, too, and we often refer to it as "Amish Country."

I have read this entire thread. This one, per the mods, and in difference to and with respect to the loss of life, is for prayers, updates on the victims' conditions; and information on how donations can be made (to cover the medical expenses).

That is not true. This would be, like other things that fall into Amish life, the will of God.
Amen. I have a nine year old son. I was so happy to see him get off the school bus today. I hugged him and did not want to let go.
Children are so precious. This is so unimaginable.
Still, from my understanding they think guns are evil if used to kill people -- even in self-defense.
Noooo, The weapon is not evil, but it would be evil for them to kill, even in self defense.
I wonder if someone else called if they would get the same answer?
