My point is that we need to eliminate anti-family social programs (including the Dept. of Education) while supporting our Second Amendment. Homeschooling is also a good idea, IMO. My teens were being cheated out of any chance of a good education. Now they're going to be engineers (their choice several years ago).

If you want to send a card, send it to the school. Even the local post office will get it to the school. Their church, funerals and weddings are all held in their homes, not in a church building, so there would be no church to send it to.
I used to put together the Amish newspaper for Lancaster County, and according to their local correspondents, they do appreciate giving and receiving card showers. Keep in mind a religious card or a hand-written letter would be most appropriate. They would not have any use for other types of sympathy gifts such as figurines, pictures, or jewelry, etc.

What a relief that the family you know is alright. But they all know each other in that area, I'm sure, and will all be grieving.

Just for the record- the State Police spokesman said the killer shot himself- in the interest of a correct headline. In the beginning I think the rumor was that police had shot him..

Very well said....
I love the Amish people and the Lancaster area ... and the simplicity of their lives! I have great respect for them and how they survive with all the modern life surrounding them.
I cannot understand how someone could do something so cruel, so evil - so satanic.

You're on the wrong thread for all that. Have you read the facts that we know in this story...?

This school was not designed for anything like you are describing.

I was going to touch on this point. Did they say the aid was pregnant or holding an infant. What you posted is true. I wonder if they were breaking with tradition by having a pregnant teacher. Presumably, she would be married if she was pregnant. I don't think the teacher was pregnant. One aide was killed (I think that was the 15 year old). They didn't say who the pregnant women were.

THANKS TONS.
That perspective makes exceeding sense to me. Thanks for helping me understand. Sorry have been so thickheaded.

Of course, you're right. The only problem I have with the Amish (read: why I could never be one, drat!) is that the women are way down the scale on the technology ladder. Electricity and phones in the barn (for business), but not in the house. This isn't a feminist rant, just an over simplification for those following along at home. (But I do love their clothes and quilts!)
