Are the ones in the center
- pretending to be hit?
- taking a nap?
- waiting their turn?

Thats a perfectly OK way to shoulder a weapon if your build doesnt allow you to get a nice site picture, I have seen it taught on ranges before to petite women.

Honey, you need to sholder the weapon. Actually, it is my understanding that soldiers don't shoulder the weapons when in close urban combat. It makes them more agile and less likely to have their rifle barrel catch on something as they twist and turn.

Once upon a time, I could hit Pepsi cans @100 meters with one of those.
Bet she could out shoot me now though.

Honey, you need to sholder the weapon. That's what the buttstock on that M-16 is for.. My first experience with a firearm was an M-14 at Ft Knox.I was rather unpleasantly surprised by the kickback that thing had.But I got used to it.

Recoil, not kickback.Trust me,to this 19 year old kid from the suburbs of Boston, first time away from home, scared silly...
..it was "kickback". ;-)

"OK...if your build doesnt allow...a nice site picture...[for]
petite women." If I ran a military full of petite women Id try to get some kind of collapsing stocks. Maybe something like on the CAR. If I were ordering for a whole military contract maybe Id spec something with even one more click to either side so that everyone from Jethro on down could use it comfortably...

There's a difference. I grew up in the country, was hunting on my own at age 12, under 100 pounds, using a single shot 12 gauge shotgun. Talk about recoil!!!

I think I understand the difference.Perhaps because I grew up in the suburbs of a Northeastern city,I have almost no experience with firearms except for my exposure in Army BCT.
The cycle I was in was the last at Ft Knox to qualify on the M-14 and the first to qualify on the M-16.Apart from those two weapons,I fired a .38 pistol once at a firing range in Palmetto,FL (while on vacation).
I have no doubt that there are many firearms that have much greater "recoil" or "kickback" than the three that I've fired in my life.

Before I joined the Navy, I had fired 12 gauge shotguns, .22 rifles, a 30.06, my dad's German .32 and .25 pistols (souveniers from WWII), and a Colt M1911A1 .45 of one of his friends. Oh, and the BB rifle I received for my 9th birthday.
