The following is the complete text of Mel Gibson's statement regarding his arrest for investigation of driving under the influence of alcohol:
"After drinking alcohol on Thursday night, I did a number of things that were very wrong and for which I am ashamed. I drove a car when I should not have, and was stopped by the L.A. County sheriffs. The arresting officer was just doing his job and I feel fortunate that I was apprehended before I caused injury to any other person.
"I acted like a person completely out of control when I was arrested, and said things that I do not believe to be true and which are despicable. I am deeply ashamed of everything I said.
"Also, I take this opportunity to apologize to the deputies involved for my belligerent behavior. They have always been there for me in my community and indeed probably saved me from myself. I disgraced myself and my family with my behavior and for that I am truly sorry.
"I have battled the disease of alcoholism for all of my adult life and profoundly regret my horrific relapse. I apologize for any behavior unbecoming of me in my inebriated state and have already taken necessary steps to ensure my return to health."
Dodgers fan, I'll forgive you of your sins. Did you root for Duke Snyder, Campaneris, Pee Wee Reese? I don't go back that far but I watched them on ESPN classic. I'm a Yankee fan.
I'm still trying to figure this forum out. Which post did you respond to regarding "the kids from South Park."?
What about the gypsies and the disabled people? Could they hide? And the Catholic priests and nuns?
No one I know would give me a break for being a bigot.
I'm not one and never have been.
There is no "if they apologize" in that verse.
Besides, he didn't apologize for being a bigot.

Do you deny the power of David Blaine? He's done a lot more than walk on water. Jesus of Nazareth was a great man, but he never made an entire skyscraper disappear like Blaine.
And don't give me the argument that there were no 100 story skyscrapers in 1st Century Palestine/Israel.
That's no excuse.
Hah, Jack Bauer does more before 9 AM than Blaine does in an entire day.
oh yeah! Well I do more before 10:00 PM then most people do before 6:30 AM.
I was referring to Michael Moore.
Yep, he's still upset. PMS (pubescent male syndrome) is a bitch! :)
Yes, Catholic priests could refuse to wear clerical garb. Were Catholic priests harassed by Mussolini? I don't think so. This is a red herring. Gysies were another story however. there was no rounding up of Catholics - many of the top Nazis unfortunately having been Catholic themselves.
Last I viewed the film there were several Jews that came off quite well in that film. Jesus Christ being One.
As well, there were several Romans that came off quite badly.
Gibson said what he said. I'm not really surprised, it does fill in some blanks about why he would associate with Michael Moore of all people. Suddenly it clicks.
But, and I'm sure this disappoints you, I still stand besides TPOTC. And, no, I'm not an anti-semite. But I would advise you that a number of people are praising Oliver Stone's movie about the World Trade Towers. He's not exactly a committed Christian conservative wholeheartedly passionate about the Iraq war.
The movie isn't the man.
You evidently saw what you saw in the film. I don't share your view, and my "lying eyes" are unlikely ever do so...unless you can find frozen frames with messages hidden calling for the extinction of the Jews. Short of that, for a film you believe so anti-semitic...it's amazing just how removed from that message the vast majority that saw it came away with. For that vast majority that watched? Are now passionately standing as One with Israel. Guess it wasn't too effective huh?
Are you serious? Catholic priest TODAY may choose not to wear their collars but, back then they all wore them, proudly, I might add.
Go look up what happened in Holland, I believe it was, after the Nazis found out about the Catholic churches and convents hiding Jews. There WAS a round up of priests and nuns.
Also read about St. Maximillian Kolbe and Sister Teresa Benedicta better known as Edith Stein.
Those top Nazis may have called themselves Catholic but obviously they weren't as noted by their actions.
Also, read abouot Pope John Paul's time during the war. He didn't have it too easy.
I did not think the Passion of the Christ was anything more than a snuff film. Gibson is a VERY angry man who is like his father in that regard. The anger comes out in his movies and now in this incident.
He may feel that he has gone beyond his father's bigotry..but he has not dealt with his own anger, rage, sarcasm and his own shame, whatever that might be,that comes out in this visciousness.
Having seen him on interviews, I am not surprised about this. This is one very angry arrogant man and when he is drunk, he is a very real danger.
His apology was more about "mel" being embarrassed, than a true apology to those he insulted.
I agree he's acted like more than a jerk of late. A number of his films have contained better and more uplifting themes than most of the garbage Hollywood puts out. For that reason, I hope he comes to his senses.
But I'll say it again--there is a whole wing of the Democrat left that routinely says essentially the same thing Gibson said while in a drunk stupor. They are the Jew-blamers. And most Americans, including the media and even quite a few conservatives, aren't in a rage over THEIR ANTI-SEMITISM. The media, for one, aids it with slanted articles hiding the groups behind rallies, cropping photos with viciously bigoted messages, etc. etc.
And as for the UN and the rest of the world? Their record from the middle ages up to this very day is filled with hatred and blame for Jews. This nowadays while they make more and more accomodation to immigrant Muslims who are anti-semitic and despise the Western culture of their host nations.
Not nearly enough rage about this. And more: there are plenty of self-loathing Jews who might as well be anti-semites. Their willingness to see captialist Western culture--which owes much to Jewish thought, intellectual and economic initiative--as evil. That's a form of self hatred. Their opposition to nationhood for Jews, represented by Israel, the only sure way that Jews can have the powers of State to protect and defend their existence, is a form of self-loathing.
So, by all means, as conservatives, let's condemn Gibson's remarks. Together with his diatribes about Bush, he sounds like a pretty typical far left nutcase. Hope he comes to his senses and stops drinking political swill running like a river in Hollywood.
But let's reserve some of of our condemnation for these others. And let's see how fast fast they apologize for their Jew-blaming anti-semitism.
Yeah, Hollywood and the media complaining about all that violence in The Passion. That was priceless.
I guess he did make the flogging and carrying the cross through the streets and getting crucified look really awful. Why couldn't he just handle it like they did in "King Of Kings"... /s
For the record, here's a Yale webpage fretting a bit about Neo-Nazi's linking to articles by Noam Chomsky...doing what? Pretty much: blaming the Jews for all wars going on...
