The following is the complete text of Mel Gibson's statement regarding his arrest for investigation of driving under the influence of alcohol:
"After drinking alcohol on Thursday night, I did a number of things that were very wrong and for which I am ashamed. I drove a car when I should not have, and was stopped by the L.A. County sheriffs. The arresting officer was just doing his job and I feel fortunate that I was apprehended before I caused injury to any other person.
"I acted like a person completely out of control when I was arrested, and said things that I do not believe to be true and which are despicable. I am deeply ashamed of everything I said.
"Also, I take this opportunity to apologize to the deputies involved for my belligerent behavior. They have always been there for me in my community and indeed probably saved me from myself. I disgraced myself and my family with my behavior and for that I am truly sorry.
"I have battled the disease of alcoholism for all of my adult life and profoundly regret my horrific relapse. I apologize for any behavior unbecoming of me in my inebriated state and have already taken necessary steps to ensure my return to health."
I guess you didn't see my post #32 on this thread to you.
Yep.
Now, everything the left said about THE PASSION OF THE CHRIST is true. EVERYTHING.
Not just the left. Christopher Hitchens was dead-on about that movie. As was Frank Rich, who is on the left.
So in one night, Gibson lost all his credibility.
It will be interesting to read the trades on Monday.
...that is not necessarily true....though it happens more then not....but some people act out when drunk......or act like others ....and not how they are themselves....I know too many alcoholics and know better.....but you are right for many
You're a good guy Laz.
Bwahahahahahaha!
I have a friend whose opinion I greatly admire. He is not Jewish. He is highly educated, and very successful in his field, which is arts related. He found the movie deeply offensive and VERY anti-semitic.
I know all that. That's really not what I am driving at. People down though history reading the New Testament have come away hating Jews. The New Testament seems..."seems" to be against Jews. It does. There is something there that is easily misunderstood. It should not be that way. Somethings wrong there. It should have been written much clearer so the Jews would be protected, like The New Testament for Dummies. Because it is so unclear, the Jews have really suffered. I had funny feelings about it even as a little kid and and I did get it sorted out until way into my adulthood. Sorry that's the way I see it.
Hmm. Christ preached in a particular time and place, but his good news was meant for everyone. People of different faiths, or no faith, have found the message startling wherever and whenever they hear it.
Yes, the priests of his time found his teachings blasphemous. But I think it says something that he did not call his followers to arms to defend him, and those who opposed him could not win by pursausion or argument. I don't count Christ as anti-Jewish.
I went to the film hoping to like it, to be inspired by it, to be suprised and proven wrong. I was not.
The weird thing is that I do not believe folks who loved the movie are anti-semitic. It was very subtle in it's insults. Hitchens wrote the best review.
But at least now you can't say nobody said, "YOU WERE RIGHT, I WAS WRONG!" ;)
I did not see the quotes from Gibson.
I thought you were assuming he was a racist because he portrayed the Jesus of the Bible in his movie, not a politically correct one.
If he made those quotes, I stand corrected.
LOL!
I remember one of the subtle critques of the film. It noted that the figure embodying Satan only moved among the Jews in the crowd during the scene where Christ was flogged.
It was a lie. The scene clearly shows Romans among those the figure moves among.
He'll learn about humility. Something big shots in Hollywood sorely lack.
I am not going to go as far as Jew Hater. I lived in a house that had all sorts of things said about certain ethnic and racial groups. I dont believe those things but, they occasionally pop into my head. I could probably get pretty stupid with those ideas if my tongue was loosened.
Thanks for the update. I have been out all weekend.
....well I am not that proud that I can't say I thought you were calling the poster a jew hating moron....if you were calling Mel that...well....I'm sorry....thought you meant the other guy cause you disagreed with him/her.....my apologies....
