The following is the complete text of Mel Gibson's statement regarding his arrest for investigation of driving under the influence of alcohol:
"After drinking alcohol on Thursday night, I did a number of things that were very wrong and for which I am ashamed. I drove a car when I should not have, and was stopped by the L.A. County sheriffs. The arresting officer was just doing his job and I feel fortunate that I was apprehended before I caused injury to any other person.
"I acted like a person completely out of control when I was arrested, and said things that I do not believe to be true and which are despicable. I am deeply ashamed of everything I said.
"Also, I take this opportunity to apologize to the deputies involved for my belligerent behavior. They have always been there for me in my community and indeed probably saved me from myself. I disgraced myself and my family with my behavior and for that I am truly sorry.
"I have battled the disease of alcoholism for all of my adult life and profoundly regret my horrific relapse. I apologize for any behavior unbecoming of me in my inebriated state and have already taken necessary steps to ensure my return to health."
He's a anti-Semite very much like Hizbollah.
That's so not the point. To kind of paraphrase the Pope.."IT IS AS IT IS." Now we all know the truth about Mel. He'll probably be even a bigger star in France now.
Next you'll blame PMS! :) What in that post was hysterical? I'm not going to change how I feel. So If you want to say something, go ahead and say it.
Which part of my are you referring to??
Worse than the Dixie Chicks? I don't think so. they don't even have the excuse of being drunk for spewing their hatred.
Pointing to the real roots of the current climate for Jews (having little to nothing to do with Mel Gibson) is so not the point?
I say it is. I say the MSM will use this to bludgeon conservatives unfairly.
Damn, Hildy, it pains me to read that. Stay safe, I'll pray for you.
They're still in power, aren't they? BTW, they were sober when they said it.Mel Gibson could lose his career, while the two beasts get more powerful.
I don't see anyone cheering here.
I would have liked "I am deeply ashamed that I am not a Kennedy otherwise I would have never been arrested" instead.
The erratic driving was observed after he was clocked driving 25 mph over the speed limit.
Big deal. 25 over is nothing on most CA roads.
You might think telling a cop he was going to "f" him is cute. He's lucky he didn't get his face shoved into a wall.
You're right. - He's lucky he didn't get his face shoved into a wall by a 'cute' cop. No doubt his celebrity status saved him from the normal indignities.
And yet, despite whatever Mel's feelings about the Jews may or may not be, there was nothing, nothing antisemitic in the film. They were true to the Gospels, and Jews who find something antisemitic in the Gospels are no better than Christians who do. Bigots, both of them.
I think that's the best defense I could come up with for this actor, but I'm not in the mood to defend - or attack - anyone today.
Mel's sentiments and words inevitably must taint his achievement with The Passion. He's brought that on himself. It's very sad for those of us who believe the movie was inspiring and faithful to the Gospel.
Well my theory is it wasn`t that he was really letting his true feelings be known, but rather he was trying to destroy himself. He was in an incredible destrucive mood like most alcoholics get into (your talking to the expert).
Remember, his first words when pulled over was "My life is f***ed". I`ve been there before quite a few times, and when you are in that state, self destruction comes VERY easily.
I mean what is the WORST possible thing he could have said to destroy his career? Well, he went and said it. To me though, right now that is the least of his problems.
It was obvious to me when the Passion was being released, the guy was under incredile pressure and he buckled. Before he started filming it and compared to when he finished, it looked like he aged 20 years. Let`s not forget all those liberal slimebags, anti-Christian zealots who did everything they could to destroy him, emabarrass him. They pretty much succeeded, yet these same slimebags will say nary a word on Islam.
Drunk people do indeed rant and rage against their loss of control when they are arrested. I've seen this.
Mel however, is still in pretty hot water for his particular rants. I'm sure it breaks the heart of everyone who defended him against accusations about anti-semitism last year, making excuses for the loony father, and so on... but sometimes one has to admit it's time to eat a little crow.
