The following is the complete text of Mel Gibson's statement regarding his arrest for investigation of driving under the influence of alcohol:
"After drinking alcohol on Thursday night, I did a number of things that were very wrong and for which I am ashamed. I drove a car when I should not have, and was stopped by the L.A. County sheriffs. The arresting officer was just doing his job and I feel fortunate that I was apprehended before I caused injury to any other person.
"I acted like a person completely out of control when I was arrested, and said things that I do not believe to be true and which are despicable. I am deeply ashamed of everything I said.
"Also, I take this opportunity to apologize to the deputies involved for my belligerent behavior. They have always been there for me in my community and indeed probably saved me from myself. I disgraced myself and my family with my behavior and for that I am truly sorry.
"I have battled the disease of alcoholism for all of my adult life and profoundly regret my horrific relapse. I apologize for any behavior unbecoming of me in my inebriated state and have already taken necessary steps to ensure my return to health."
It's PR Stage I, apologize, but for as few specifics as possible. People won't accept it, so in Stage II he'll have to acknowledge that he said things hurtful to Jews and apologize to the community but won't acknowledge specific comments. We'll see if he'll need Stage III. I think given world turmoil, he won't.
But his movie will be a flop, even if that wasn't its destiny.
Thank you.........
I do not know you.
I think a lot of the left's anti-American "crusader" rhetoric has an anti-christian undertone.
And the left is flush with self-hating jews who see Israel as a Zionist (essentially fascist) plague.
Gibson has made truly ignorant comments about Jews. Then again, he's apparently finishing up a movie that skewers Christian fundamentalist crusader Bush by way of historical analogy.
Gosh, I haven't heard Mrs. Clinton or Ms. McKinney being bashed at all for THEIR anti semetic remarks. I must've missed that part of the conversation at the time..
I hope that was sarcasm. That has to be one of the most "over the top" statements I've ever seen. It's really unbelievable that you would even think that, let alone type it.
So you guys think his anti-semitism is Teh Cuuuuuute???
You make me sick.
Hildy
I'm a recovering alcoholic and I was just saying the same thing to my husband.
Many people are feeling this for some reason. It's like a heightened electrical charge keeping everyone on edge.
You're on crack.
I agree.
Well, see, they're not actor/film-makers. Thus, to the mob attacking Gibson on this thread, their opinions don't matter as much. ;)
At that point ......... he doesn't KNOW it.
Good ideas.
From the way you talk...... let me guess, you had a pretty bad alcoholic close to you in your life. Right?
Thank you again. That's very good, but you can stop now, we get it.
Those six million were human beings unjustly murdered, so I consider them my people, too.
Bingo! You are part of the solution and not the problem. Those things were exactly what I was thinking. I understand people are upset but now the ball is in the Jewish community's court. They shouldn't let this chance pass by.
Oh poor poor Mel. He cried all the way to the bank. Then he got plotched and proved the Jews right. He is anti-Semitic and you are denying reality. It's good that he apologised. I imagine he is very ashamed of himself and HE SHOULD BE. You can agree with that can't you?
