The following is the complete text of Mel Gibson's statement regarding his arrest for investigation of driving under the influence of alcohol:
"After drinking alcohol on Thursday night, I did a number of things that were very wrong and for which I am ashamed. I drove a car when I should not have, and was stopped by the L.A. County sheriffs. The arresting officer was just doing his job and I feel fortunate that I was apprehended before I caused injury to any other person.
"I acted like a person completely out of control when I was arrested, and said things that I do not believe to be true and which are despicable. I am deeply ashamed of everything I said.
"Also, I take this opportunity to apologize to the deputies involved for my belligerent behavior. They have always been there for me in my community and indeed probably saved me from myself. I disgraced myself and my family with my behavior and for that I am truly sorry.
"I have battled the disease of alcoholism for all of my adult life and profoundly regret my horrific relapse. I apologize for any behavior unbecoming of me in my inebriated state and have already taken necessary steps to ensure my return to health."
Exactly. He probably got drunk BECAUSE of being mad at Israel at this time. He IS anti-Semitic. His dad was anti-Semitic. Accept it people. I am sure he's sorry for that and for his behavior but he will pay a price for this and he should. That's life
My post concerns his backpedaling and dissemination. According to what I have read, he had a very big habit. I am not trying a case before a jury. I am only suggesting that the high and mighty always seem to get the wild cards!
If you want to pick a fight, go somewhere else. I made a statement with my opinion.
That is what we do here! Your mileage may vary.
I think the entire arrest is on tape as well as the booking at the police station. When he released a written apology he admitted that he said some very wrong things.
Deal?
Me too. I refused to see Tempation of the Christ because it seemed anti-Semitic. I feel vindicated.
Actually, the story here, IMHO, is the mental illness associated with blurting out things completely out of context. Your demonstration is helpful, but I think a bit over the top.
IMHO, antisemitism is ignorance combined with some degree of malice. As a Christian, I agree that those who are antisemetic should be rebuked at every pass. It is bigoted and it is hate-filled. It should be recognized for what it is, but I can't pass judgement on the man. I pray that God will guide his heart into the right place.
Luk 17:3 Take heed to yourselves: If thy brother trespass against thee, rebuke him; and if he repent, forgive him.
We hear alot on this forum about people who are attacking Christianity. How about a little forgiveness for them too? Because you can bet that some of them have good intentions too.
I equate Christian-haters with antisemites. I'll rebuke them for their ignorance and hate, but I'll leave the forgiving to a higher power.
He was extremely belligerant with the officers, and said some seriously anti-Jewish things.
Why would he release a public statement if he didn't say that stuff?
What tell the truth?
Sorry, but Mel's being an antisemitic doesn't negate the fact that Hollyweird was just as rude to Mel (yes there were some pretty heavy language thrown Gibson's way also). Neither excuses the other, but it is still fact. TheCrusader told it like it is also.
LISTEN CLOSELY TO WHAT I'M TELLING YOU: Six Million of my people were murdered just for being Jews. Today, world leaders on their pulpits talk about killing my people and the majority of the world cheers. Excuse me if I'm not "nice." My "nice" ancestors walked into gas chambers. There are some issues I just won't be "NICE" about.
Seriously? I'm so sorry to hear that!
I'll put one up at my place, until it's safe for you to fly yours.
(((Hildy)))
That is exactly right. He will have to just take it on the chin like a man. He deserves it.
On second thought, I'll have a V-8!
Neither deserves a pass.
I was unaware that the "offical report" had been released.
When it is released i'll gladly comment on it. However my comment wasnt on the yet to be released report but your reply to post # 116. Again how is it anti-semitic?
