I love seeing Taylor get this. And waiting for Elliott to record. Best of two worlds.

Elliot was not that strong IMO.

I think Chris and Taylor will make hits.

Taylor sounds extremely marketable in voice.

K has the looks, but only a third of a range IMO.

Tomorrow night they'll say how close it was, and show numbers that are 0.00001 apart. While dial idol has Taylor with a huge lead.

Elliott is a musician.

And where's the darn soul patrol?

I just went out in the rain and voted for Taylor for 15 minutes, got through every time. WHOO!

DialIdol
Rank Idol DialIdol Score Margin Of Error Actual Rank
1 Taylor Hicks 45.583 1.141 -
2 Katharine McPhee 37.097 1.227 -

I don't know how long people are allowed to vote, but it appears to be slowing down now and that Katharine has never had the lead in callers.

It's over now, I think. Was 4 hours and I tried so many times earlier but could never get through, then I had to come to work. Just now, though, wide open.

Also my daughter did some serious texting earlier, just in case.

If they hand this to Kat I will be rolling up my pant legs.

Let's hope McPapa doesn't have offices of texters somewhere.

The thing Kat has going for her is the connection her daddy may have within the business.

I hear the dad was a producer of some such thing on a Dick Clark production Ryan Seacrest worked on.

Seems a reason to not be allowed to compete IMO if that is totally true.

Still going, but all night the voting has not been in her favor, so if she wins it would have to be a fix I guess.

Like a pair of twos winning over three of a kind.

There was news that yesterday Ryan Seacrest fell through glass during a rehearsal. That he cried like a little girl, but didn't even need a stitch.

Really? How did that not disqualify her from the get go?

If her father is in the business and worked with Seacrest, that would seem too close to the action to make anything appear Kosher.

I don't know, but there was a story about the father being in the business and working on the same show as Seacrest before.

No kidding. I can live without Seacrest, personally, but I am glad he is not hurt... I think. :-)

Just kidding!!

Time (or past it) for the West Coast Wrapup!

I'll just lead off by saying that if Tay-Tay loses, it ain't my fault! I voted until the magic 1:00 mark, occasionally finding myself asleep and nodding over the phone. (Unfortunately, I'm not kidding!) Jeez louise, I'm too old for this nonsense ....

Kat's first song was pleasant to listen to, but no barn-burner. SOTR was well-done if you like that sort of thing (a simple, sweet song over-embellished until it wouldn't recognize itself if it looked in a mirror). Kat would have done far better to reprise "Someone to Watch Over Me," which was the only song she performed this season that actually enticed me to vote for her.

Kat's last song was not only a travesty, but a DIFFICULT travesty -- the worst of both worlds. It required that in addition to using her strong midvoice, she also dip down into her chest voice, and reach up and soar in her head voice -- and while really excellent singers such as Whitney Houston and Celine Dion (who are both terrific singing technicians, whatever you think of their artistry) can do that sort of thing in their sleep, it was too much of a stretch for this little kitten. Her low chest notes were weak and hollow, her high notes forced and thin.

To add insult to injury, the gray satin sausage-casing that she chose for a dress made her appear to have weak abdominal muscles and pudgy upper thighs. Wow. Whoever told her that dress looked good on her REALLY did not like her. Whoever wrote that song (knowing full well her vocal limitations, I'll warrant) also did not like her. In a way, though, I'm glad that her last song was so wretched, since it relieved me of any need to worry about whether I've been fair to her in the past. I've been fair enough, I think: Kat rests on her singing laurels to prove her fitness for American Idol status, but her singing is simply not what it should be. End of story, for me.

(I must add, in all fairness, that Kat really should have been allowed to perform Taylor's final song instead of the one foisted off on her. His song was much easier, and would have allowed her to keep on hiding her vocal limitations, as she has been. And it would have been interesting to see the differences between them.)

Taylor's first song was very high-energy (excusing in part, perhaps, his fetching purple velvet gear), though it was not the barn-burner I had hoped he would perform. His "Levon" was curiously subdued -- perhaps saving his voice for the big effort at the end? His final song was a fairly wretched song (though not as bad as Kat's), but Taylor performed it with conviction, and considerable energy at the end. He took a bad song and made it sound pretty darned okay. Is that the mark of an Idol? Being able to take straw and turn it into gold? (Or does that just mean his middle name is Rumplestiltskin?)

There's a certain amount of apples-to-orangeness that makes the two of them difficult to compare. All I can say for sure is that I'd listen to an entire album of Taylor's work and enjoy it, but I'd be biting my tongue all the way through Kat's work. 'Nuff said. Tay-Tay got my vote.

I like her voice and all, but still that's a bit too close for comfort.

And my dream is to see Seacrest gone. I hated him at 102.7 ( I think he was on 98.7 at one time too) and I think he totally ruins Idol.

Katharine McPhee #2 185305 ********99296 *****284601
Katharine McPhee ***167311 ********85568 *****252879

Wow, looking at the raw numbers, it appears a fix is in.
Check this out, all the prior leads for Taylor show the numbers included busy signals that don't count.

If you look at actual votes that got through. Katherine has 283491 successful votes and about 550k busy signals.

Somehow Taylor has close to a million busy signals and only 229620 got through. That is about 50k less.

How is it possible that Taylor has a heaver flow of calls trying to get through and more than double the busy signals of Katherine, and yet he is getting less actual votes?

FIX????
