Bush will win on Immigration to save the Republican Party.

Posted on 03/27/2006 9:53:41 AM PST by Pukin Dog

Just a little dose of reality for some of you going nuts over the Immigration issue, because there is NO chance that you will win on the border enforcement issue. No chance whatsoever. Only after a migrant worker program passes, making most of these illegal aliens legal, is there any chance at all to have meaningful border enforcement.

Bush is not running for office anymore, but the Republican Congress is in need of a big victory in November. This issue will kill our chances to maintain the majority, and knowing that, Bush will likely veto any bill making illegal immigration a felony, if that bill does not include the migrant worker program (call it amnesty if you want) needed to hold onto Business and Hispanic support for the Republican Party.

The Illegal Immigration Genie is out of the bottle, folks. You can’t stuff her back in without losing the House and/or Senate in November. Pragmatic minds will rule in the end, and that is a bitter pill you best swallow now.

FReepers can’t will elections for the Republican Party, but we sure can go a long way towards losing them, if we can’t put our common sense ahead of our passions on this issue. I live in San Diego County, and I see the problems with illegal immigration on a daily basis.

Whether you like it or not, much of the commerce of this country does depend on these folks to do jobs that Americans won’t do for the prevailing wage.

So, you have a choice, you can demand the border enforcement bills on their own, or you can swallow hard and consider everything you will lose if we turn off 10-15% of the electorate, in addition to the business community that depends on these workers. Yeah, they broke the law, and so do the people who hire them.

So what?

Yeah, I said it, SO WHAT? The time to be worried about that was when there were REAL Republican majorities in the Border States. It is too late now. This is a problem that cannot be solved, but only managed.

It is possible to be right and stupid at the same time. Pete Wilson tried this a few years ago, got all kinds of support for it. It passed, and Pete Wilson is gone. Then a judge overturned it anyway. That is exactly what you can expect to happen with these current bills as well. Some judge will put an injunction on enforcement, but by the time that happens, we will be knee-deep into impeachment proceeding under a Democrat Congress.

Bush won’t let that happen, neither will smarter members of the Senate and House. You won’t win, you can’t win, but you can shoot yourself and the Republican party in the head (even if you are not a member) by pursuing a program that does not include amnesty or whatever you want to call it.

We lost this one.

Get over it. There are bigger battles ahead.

You condone and support a policy that encourages illegal immigration, while you yourself engage in that illegal activity. You've got some pair of cajones to post this thread. But on the issue itself, you're still DEADWRONG. In my book, that is unAmerican and unpatriotic too boot. You're part of the problem!

I also drive too fast, drink too much, and my breath? Man, you dont want to know!

"Bingo! There was a purpose for the amendment that does not - or should not - apply today. The difference is that the slaves were NOT here voluntarily like illegals.

"

While you are correct that the part of the amendment we're discussing was written for the slaves, that was not in the language.

Numerous court cases have already set precedent that being born in this country affords citizenship automatically. That will not be overturned by this SCOTUS or any other.

Many parts of the Constitution were written with a particular group in mind, but the words don't limit the effect of the Constitution just to that group. That is the case with the 14th Amendment.

You're barking up a dead tree with no branches. It's an utter waste of time.

I don't think it will work with zero regulation as she suggested

FYI...I never suggested "zero regulation".

However, health care requirements and minimum wage are two which definitely should be eradicated.

I honestly think that we need to think about ALL the complications of each aspect of this issue, and play this smart. Despite the rightness of one's cause, one can lose on the PR front and thus lose the battle.

Oh, spare me. President Bush called me a "vigilante" last year and "anti-immigrant" this morning. Hundreds of thousands of criminal invaders threw a big temper tantrum in our streets demanding the dissolution of our laws, the erasure of our borders, and the surrender of our southwest states. PR front, my ass. Either you're for the enforcement of our laws, the protection of our national security, and the sovereignty of our borders or you side with the invaders pictured below:

And you support the thugs who beat up this Minuteman Project volunteer in Indiana:

When you're ready to stop promoting the appeasement of those engaging in slow motion terrorism, let me know.

I don't see why you find this so funny. You hire illegals, you're breaking the law. That's no joke. You outed yourself today and I for one will not soon forget. The last laugh might be on you, bucko.

So, it doesn't matter to you, as long as they have an 'R' next to their name, you vote for them?

It's all about winning is basically saying you are political party animal, not someone who cares about issues or principles.

Okay, since you make the point, I will answer it.

There are plenty of R's that I wont vote for. McCain, Hagel and others too. What I am, is someone who understands that there are other issues that will make a lot more difference to the nation than this one, and those issues make it necessary for this issue not to gain negative traction.

It is not all about winning, but RIGHT NOW, nothing is more important than the majority. Without it, nothing else gets done, but you will get amnesty ANYWAY, when the democrats put it in place. Sometimes you just don't win, and should know when to lose without giving away the store in the process.

Taken from the Form I-9 for hirees after Nov. 6, 1986:

Employers may or may not photocopy documents presented...[but] are still responsible for completing the I-9.

Anti-Discrimination Notice: It is illegal to discriminate against any individual (other than an alien not authorized to work in the U.S.)...

If you aren't doing this, Dog, you could be breaking the law.

We do not need to generate the same kind of irrational disdain for Republicans among Latinos like that among Blacks.

How did Republicans bring upon themselves the disdain of the blacks?

"The Citizenship Clause did not originate from John Bingham but was inserted while the bill was under consideration in the Senate by Sen. Jacob Howard. It was intended to establish who is, and who isn't, a citizen of the United States. The clause itself is straightforward and came with ample documentary construction over how "subject to the jurisdiction" was to be construed. Sen. Howard introduced the clause this way:"

" [T]his amendment which I have offered is simply declaratory of what I regard as the law of the land already, that every person born within the limits of the United States, and subject to their jurisdiction, is by virtue of natural law and national law a citizen of the United States. This will not, of course, include persons born in the United States who are foreigners, aliens, who belong to the families of ambassadors or foreign ministers accredited to the Government of the United States, but will include every other class of persons."

The lawbreaker outed himself long ago. It is unfortunate that someone who admits to breaking the law and advocates for others to continue breaking that law and similar laws, can continue to post of Free Republic. There's a rule on FR about advocating the violation of the law. But Pukin' Dog seems to get away with it somehow.

Take all those policies, wrap them up, and they still amout to zip in terms of real "pressure." Sorry, I say point guns, especially at criminals who are invading. I'd have no problem doing that. It's your "solutions" that are junior-high-ish.

I don't see why you find this so funny.

I find it funny that some of you think that what I do or don't do is the issue. I find it funny that some of you think that your indignation is somehow intimidating. I find it funny that anyone would use their valuable time getting angry at an opposing point of view. I find it funny that you used the word 'outed', as though my opinions were ever a secret. I find it FREAKIN HILARIOUS just how serious some of you take yourselves.

Next question?

The only thing missing in those pictures is Bush speaking to the illegals and "feeling their pain".

Nothing gets done witohuot a moajorty? Such as what? Spending like crazy?

No, I'd rather be unpopular and correct than be loved.

Do you really think Hispanics will flock in numbers to vote GOP? And what about when the Dems start promising them all sorts of free goodies: free health care, more welfare, etc. What will you counter with then? The GOP has to do the same so they win? That's ridiculous.

How did Republicans bring upon themselves the disdain of the blacks?

By ignoring the fact that the Democrats would take advantage of ANY issue to gain voters and not protecting themselves from it. Lyndon Johnson destroyed the Republicans in this fashion, while Republicans sat back and let them.
