'More tar' in cannabis than cigarettes
Herald Sun ^ | 27 March 2006

SMOKING three cannabis joints will cause you to inhale the same amount of toxic chemicals as a whole packet of cigarettes, according to research published in France today.

Cannabis smoke contains seven times more tar and carbon monoxide, the French National Consumers' Institute concluded in research published in the April edition of its monthly magazine.

The institute tested regular Marlboro cigarettes alongside 280 specially rolled joints of cannabis leaves and resin in an artificial smoking machine.

The tests examined the content of the smoke for tar and carbon monoxide, as well as for the toxic chemicals nicotine, benzene and toluene.

"Cannabis smoke contains seven times more tar and carbon monoxide than tobacco smoke," the institute's magazine says.

Someone smoking a joint of cannabis resin rolled with tobacco will inhale twice the amount of benzene and three times as much toluene as if they were smoking a regular cigarette, the study says.

Smokers of pure cannabis leaves will also inhale more of these chemicals than from a normal cigarette, though the amount varies depending on the quantities.

"Smoking three joints every day – which is becoming frequent – makes you run the same risks of cancer or cardio-vascular diseases as smoking a packet of cigarettes," the magazine says.

Cannabis is "by far" the most popular illicit drug in France, it says. The number of cigarette smokers and people drinking alcohol fell in 2005, while the number of cannabis users has increased in France in the past five years.

"I doubt that, especially because the taste is substandard to that last 'nanometer'."

Taste? Taste? Dopers smoke marijuana for the taste?

Yeah, right. I've seen dopers eat the roach -- as we know, that's where all the "good" toxins are concentrated.

Taste. You're pretty funny.

"Growing your own is not cheap"

Uh-huh. And I bet it's not easy either, right?

Of course, on the very next pot thread, you or some other pro-pot legalizer will try to convince me that growing your own is really inexpensive and easy -- it's just a weed, dude!

You guys and your arguments du jour -- whatever makes your point, you'll say it. Your side is consistent in its inconsistency.

The thing that makes cannabis "not cheap" to cultivate is the 10 billion spent in police action to find and arrest the U.S. domestic cannabis farmers. Without the U.S. government war against cannabis - the price per ounce of premium (good tasting), safe marijuana is about $2.00 per ounce.

In fact since this thread has been running (about two days) there have been about 3,5600 marijuana arrests in the U.S.

Personally I like the taste of cannabis and in particular, I like stavia better than Indica.

Are you also goig to tell me that, if legalized, marijuana use would not increase when the price drops from $200./ounce to $2./ounce? I mean, I've been told that everyone who wants to smoke marijuana already is.

Argument du jour.

Why is Nate responsible for what some other pro-legalizer says?

"If" cannabis use were legalized in the U.S., its use would increase and the use of alcohol would be reduced. (A net benefit to our society) Let me predict the future - Cannabis use will remain illegal in the U.S. up until (and only less than two decades away) our nation collapses from the costs of fighting foreign wars coupled with the multitude of domestic problems. I'm sorry for breaking bad news and I do hope you have a great day.

Why are you accusing Nate of using drugs?

The plane encounteres turbulence, breaks apart in mid-air, and you attribute the accident to marijuana?

per my post #186 - Bob - are you pleased that cannabis shall remain illegal? I mean - you can relax - knowing that the fed.s are going to continue to arrest 650,000 citizens per year for possessing cannabis. That also means that every time you catch a hint of the aroma of burning cannabis - you have a perfectly legal right to call the police and report your fellow citizen and have them arrested.

That has to be a hugely satisfying feeling. Next time I light up - I'm going to announce a toast to you. Cheers!

So, what other things would you like to see become illegal? The Christian Religion? Right-wing talk radio?

Alcohol?

It's certainly a component, especially for "dopers" (I see it is impossible for you to make an argument without some sort of deragatory term for your opponents. Not that it is surprising, given the weak nature of your arguments) who grow it themselves. Let me guess, people don't drink wine for the taste either, just the alcoholic content.

Yeah, right. I've seen dopers eat the roach -- as we know, that's where all the "good" toxins are concentrated. Taste. You're pretty funny

The fact you hang around morons is not indicitive of how things are. Taste, smell, and looks are key components of high grade marijuana. I know that's a hard fact for you and others to fathom, but it's true.

To grow something in an of itself is easy to do. To grow something good is a whole different ball game. This doesn't just apply to pot, but just about anything you can grow. Give some smuck with no gardening experience some tomato seeds and he might produce some tomatoes. Give a guy who knows something about agriculture the same seeds, and they will produce a tomoato that actually tastes really good, and more than likely they will produce more tomatoes.

You guys and your arguments du jour -- whatever makes your point, you'll say it. Your side is consistent in its inconsistency.

It's not my fault you are incapable of comprehending the arguments. My arguments are very consistant.

Your Harm Reduction Journal has Soros ties, you know. I doubt it's as objective as you'd like us to believe.

"knowing that the fed.s are going to continue to arrest 650,000 citizens per year for possessing cannabis."

I don't know that. I do know that 643,500 of those are arrested by state and local police for violating state laws. The other 1% are arrested by the feds, primarily for drug dealing and drug trafficking.

"That also means that every time you catch a hint of the aroma of burning cannabis - you have a perfectly legal right to call the police and report your fellow citizen and have them arrested."

Highly unlikely when, according to your side, all the smokers are lighting up in the privacy of their own homes, after work, just to relax.

"So, what other things would you like to see become illegal?"

It's not up to me. It's up to the majority of the voters, acting through their duly elected representatives, bound by both their State Constitution and the U.S. Constitution.

You're the one who believes that people do not have the right to decide how they will live together as a society -- that your right to smoke dope trumps all.

"Taste, smell, and looks are key components of high grade marijuana."

BWAHAHAHAHAHA!

Hey, this is robertpaulsen you're talking to, not some ignorant lurker. If taste, smell, and looks were important, you'd see those factors emphasized in the seed ads. What's emphasized? The high.

"A very soft smoke and great high. Very potent."
-- White Widow

"The smoke is smooth and the high is very strong."
-- Big Bud

"It is a powerful strain with sativa overtones."
-- Purple Power

"One of the marijuana strains related to the White Widow marijuana strain so strength goes without saying."
-- Early Misty

"Let me guess, people don't drink wine for the taste either, just the alcoholic content."

Ever see wine advertised this way? Got one ad you could refer me to? Didn't think so.

People smoke dope to get high. Cut the bull.
