Man sentenced for ride-by bottom slap Sun Feb 26, 8:28 AM ET
BOGOTA, Colombia, Feb 24 - A Colombian man has been sentenced to four years' house arrest for slapping a woman's bottom as he rode by her on his bicycle, sparking debate on whether the punishment fit the crime.
Showing re-enactments of the incident, television news shows were filled on Friday with legal experts offering opinions about the judgment handed down earlier in the week by Bogota's district court.
Some said that to confine bicycle messenger Victor Garcia to his home for four years for smacking Diana Marcela Diaz's buttocks was excessive. Others said it would deter other men.
One program showed three models having their denim clad bottoms smacked so hard by a phantom hand it could be clearly heard by television viewers.
The women said that while the punishment seemed extreme, they hoped the case would mean they would be safer while on foot.
"It happened to me once," one of the models said. "I was walking very relaxed and a guy rode by on his bicycle and, 'ta!' He smacked me. I took off my shoe to hit him with it but he was already too far away."
Damn....my dear Colombia ....gone to hell in a handbasket
is nothing sacred?
LOL.
I hadn't thought of it that way.
:)
We're gonna miss you, Max ...or Laz - which one was it!?
Whew, this thread has really hit the bottom.
This happened in Columbia, hate to tell you but wolf whistles, and jeering at women down there is culturally acceptable...from the sounds of things a little pat here and there was also acceptable until now. Not every country has been emasculated by PC folks...
Everyone should keep their hands to themselves. Why anyone thinks they have a right to put their hands on anyone else is beyond me. Keep your hands off others, period!!!
It's STILL putting your hand on someone you have no right to touch. Grab, slap, punch whatever. It's NOT cute. Women, girls are not out there for the exclusive fun of some jerk riding by.
I don't think we can really judge this case until we see what the woman LOOKED like.
I agree. Some butts were born to be slapped. On the other hand, some are so large, they cannot be missed.
My dad told me that when he was a teenager he used to skate at a pond in Milwaukee. One day he and a friend saw some really cute girls. While skating by they gave the girls a little swat on the bottom. Good thing no one pressed charges on him for that. Yeats later, the girl he swatted became his wife.
It's definitely not cute, it's indeed effrontery-take-the-hindmost.
Rude and fresh and degrading to women and all that.
No argument there....
Nevertheless, a good slap would have sufficed, this lawsuit was way over the top.
(Meanwhile men are getting similar treatment these days by increasingly bold females.)
spank the baby ping.
That should have read years later,
I don't care about the punishment. That is not for me to decide. Whether it is too much depends on who is on the receiving end of something. What gives anyone a right to touch someone else? Nothing. No one...man, woman has a right to put their hands on the bodies of anyone else like that. If it is a woman doing it then do the same punishment for her. I am not just trying to stick up for women. A woman and a man and a boy and a girl and anyone...should just damn well keep their hands to themselves. It's very simple. As for the punishment that is out of my realm.
I didn't touch on rights, I merely pointed out the difference between a slap and a grab.
Are you in favor of spanking in schools? How about groping?
Do you now begin to see the difference?
this could go in so many directions.... Yes, it was wrong and he shouldn't be taking such liberties.... but, was he cute?
As I understand it, the perp was fingered for the crime, hands down, I mean he was really nailed, now he has to knuckle under and do the time. Luckily though, he won't have to be in a joint.
Was he cute?
Well, that's something to consider...really it is, georgiagirl. Let's ponder that situation further... .
