Man sentenced for ride-by bottom slap Sun Feb 26, 8:28 AM ET
BOGOTA, Colombia, Feb 24 - A Colombian man has been sentenced to four years' house arrest for slapping a woman's bottom as he rode by her on his bicycle, sparking debate on whether the punishment fit the crime.
Showing re-enactments of the incident, television news shows were filled on Friday with legal experts offering opinions about the judgment handed down earlier in the week by Bogota's district court.
Some said that to confine bicycle messenger Victor Garcia to his home for four years for smacking Diana Marcela Diaz's buttocks was excessive. Others said it would deter other men.
One program showed three models having their denim clad bottoms smacked so hard by a phantom hand it could be clearly heard by television viewers.
The women said that while the punishment seemed extreme, they hoped the case would mean they would be safer while on foot.
"It happened to me once," one of the models said. "I was walking very relaxed and a guy rode by on his bicycle and, 'ta!' He smacked me. I took off my shoe to hit him with it but he was already too far away."
Punzilla.
Four years? That takes a lot of cheek.
Catching wind of this on the rear side of the sentence has had the effect of wiping clean any previous rebuttal. The bottom line is to accept the hand of fate and never underscore the obvious by leaving a normally closed option unprotected. :-)
I've always wondered why everybody's nickname wasn't just, "Nick." Sure would make things a lot easier.
I think he'll be labled as a bike-sexual for the rest of his life.

You're talking smack and trying to skirt the issue. I think it is only proper that he was hauled in front of a sitting judge who ruled from the bench. Any attempt to appeal this ruling will either be slapped down immediately or sat upon until a new judge is seated.
He can just peddle his uncontrollable urges elsewhere!
After four years he will be in arrears many ways, mostly behind in his social life. He'll be itching to slap anyone on the backside by then, but what can you expect from a wisecrack. But he can look on the bright side - at least they didn't put him in a penile colony.
The county Seat doesn't have time to saddle itself with this. With a stipulation that if you can butt heads with the sitting judge, he might make room so as not to stall any of this before blooming itself into some awful butt ugly trial.
Frankly it sounds like the prosecution is taking this guy for a ride...I heard that the victim has made every effort to conceal the evidence. Furthermore, the interrogator's allegedly used intimidation to secure the confession, telling the guy they'd hand him his a$$ if he didn't cooperate.
This clown is going to be the butt of jokes until the end. He's cracked himself wide open with this. Can he ever attain the intestinal fortitude required to finish the paperwork required to wipe the slate clean?
You're on a roll now!
Gripping commentary, eh?
Bottoms up!
House arrest is a frigging joke. They use it here in Panama too and most of these punks laugh at it. I would rather he get 30 days in the slammer and then he woulkd know what it is to get his ass slapped.
OK,, I'm packing it in! :-)
One must consider reputation among future generations, one's posterior-ity, when one ventures advances into virgin forest where the hand of man has not set foot. No doubt this guy will be the butt of many jokes for trying to cop a heel's feel. He should have been slapped. Or sued. Or hit with a SLAPP suit. Or by a guy in a suit.
This was a cad minus the Cadillac, whether or not his Bicycle Messenger uniform was a Brooks Brothers but-ton-down outfit.
Generally speaking, "Corporal" Victor Garcia's underhanded salute to a lady's Private areas seem to have been a Major faux pas. A shotgun wedding would be in order after a courtship Marshal, er, court martial.
