WASHINGTON (CNS) -- The president of the U.S. bishops blasted a recent episode of the cable television comedy "South Park" that he said showed Mary in "a tasteless and ugly fashion."
In a Dec. 14 letter to Tom Freston, co-president and chief operating officer of Viacom International, parent company of Comedy Central, the cable channel that shows "South Park," Bishop William S. Skylstad of Spokane, Wash., said the channel showed "extreme insensitivity" in choosing to show the episode.
The episode, which first was shown Dec. 7 and had repeat showings in the week following, was titled "Bloody Mary." During the episode, a "South Park" character claims to have been sprayed with blood from a bodily orifice of a Virgin Mary statue.
When Pope Benedict XVI investigates in the show, he declares that she was merely menstruating. The episode's premiere date came the day before the feast of the Immaculate Conception, a holy day of obligation for Catholics.
That is exactly what he is trying to say.
I am a conservative, and I love South Park.

South Park
Douche and Turd (0808)
Douche and Turd- When PETA demonstrates against the use of a cow as South Park Elementary's mascot, the student body is forced to choose a new one. As the election approaches, Kyle tries to convince everyone that his candidate, a giant douche, is better than Cartman's nominee, a turd sandwich.

My sainted GM used to say, Good taste is always in style.
When they were making fun of Hurricane Katrina Cartman was trying to get Kyle's "Jew Gold."
I thought it was hilarious.
Having had an uncle go through AA and come out of it throughly disgusted with them.....
I could have done without the blood scenes, but it fits with what this show has done for going on 10 years now....
So you don't have sex?
Groups have been boycotting and protesting SP since it first aired many years ago. It has only grown more and more popular.
Somehow I suspect you're not a believing Christian. If you were, you might not love a show that blasphemes your religion.
Bingo. I could never imagine my Grandma or Mom saying, "Come in here kids, lets all sit down and watch SouthPark". I think SouthPark is just another example of the debasing of our culture.
Disgusting.
The FR PRIG Patrol is out in full force today, friend!
Making fun of Jesus is probably an overstatement for that episode, and most episodes Jesus is in. He is portrayed as a normal enough person. Some people take that to his being made fun of.
When SP makes fun of things it tends to be over the top. Mecha-Streisand for example, or Mel Gibson going crazy when Stan and Kenny wanted their money back from the Passion.
The episodes Jesus is in, including the movie, do put him in some crazy spots like the deathmatch with Santa.
Every once in a while South Park has a subtle point but they tend more to the blunt.
They rib Jews all the time. One of the show's creators is a Jew.
Well, it is because Jesus is just the child... Mary is the savior...
LOL
this thread is hilarious....
I mean, some of these people are so uptight you wouldn't get a greased BB up their asses with a jackhammer....
Jesus has never been mocked on South Park.
Get lost.
Jesus is a super hero on South Park.
Is sex wrong between married people? I set an example by waiting until marriage. I hope my children follow the example.
And one episode, Cartman started a Nazi movement and attempted to wipe out all the jews.
It will be OK.
