Latest developments in Aruba (Thursday 25-August) Hasibokos

On Tuesday the director of KIA (local prison), Freddy Maduro, granted permission to the NBC news crew to enter KIA and film the institute from the inside as he gave them a tour. NBC was able film Joran van der Sloot in his underwear while inside his cell without asking for his permission. The Van der Sloot family did not take this development lightly as the went to court yesterday to ban the broadcast and distribution of the video material. The judge ruled that the video material is not to be broadcasted. Each time NBC shows the images/video they will be fined about 500.000 $. The fine was set at 1 million guilders. This is less than half a million US, so considering how much money a big network as NBC has, they may just show the images a couple of times to get the ratings a pay the fines without a hitch. According to various reports the director of KIA, Maduro, has been suspended, pending the investigation. He has not informed his superiors about the NBC tour beforehand and considering that this is a high profile case he should have consulted with Justice Minister, Rudy Croes, before letting NBC in.

Wonder what would happen if they sold it to a competitor?
