Previous Natalee Holloway Threads

Firefighters drain a lake, Tuesday, July 26, 2005, in Oranjestad, Aruba searching for Alabama teenager, Natalee Holloway, who vanished nearly two months ago while vacationing in the island. Edwin Comemencia, a police spokesman, confirmed that the draining of the lake across from the Marriott Hotel was part of the investigation into Holloway's disappearance but would not comment further. The draining was expected to take up to 24 hours. (AP Photo/Pedro Famous Diaz)

Why, yes of course everyone is entitled to their opinions. And when someone disagrees they should be able to respond in kind.

The problem, truthluva, is that those who disagree too often do NOT "respond in kind."

Rather, they respond with vicious personal attacks.

Too often I have seen people come on these threads with the very same question as onja, civilly put. Now, you may get "tired" of that question. Fine. Don't answer it!

Worse is the hounding of people who come on here with thoughtful ideas that happen to be "minority" opinions. CitizenM is just one who comes to mind.

Now CitizenM is a very nice lady. I've had several private exchanges with her, I now consider her a friend. (And btw, I think spectre's wife does too.) Now she won't post on these threads.

And I've had many private replies from others to the same effect.

I don't know why you want the NH threads to be an echo chamber of people who think just like you. FreeRepublic is and should remain a freewheeling place where people can post what they like --within civil bounds, of course. I see an awful lot of incivility on your side of the argument.

(*spectre, I pinged you since I mentioned your name re CitizenM.)

Good point. I go back and forth about this being a set up to protect the power on the island and just believing that someone is doing the right thing. And I wonder if we'll ever know the "truth".

I quoted him! LOL!

Hilarious! Such a small cyber-world! :o)

Anyway, seen this?

This past November 12-17, six students from ISA (Joran and Valentijn van der Sloot, Susana de la Oliva, Larissa Bermudez, Michael Pochettino, and Hiram Vrolijk) attended the South American Model United Nations—SAMUN—in Caracas, Venezuela. The 15th annual SAMUN was a four day simulation/exercise of the United Nations, for international secondary students. ISA represented the country of Norway with the purpose of seeking, through discussion, negotiation and debate, solutions to the various issues that were presented in the conference: human rights, disarmament, and environmental and economic concerns. Delegates from nearly twenty schools came together with the single purpose of seeking solutions and arriving at an understanding of actual conflicts between nations ultimately developing real international cooperation.

Oh dear . . . that is all we need . . . Joren van der Sloot at the UN! Well, all things considered, he's got some of the same qualifications as Kofi Annan . . .

This whole thing is such a fiasco. Learning what i have about the difference between the superiority of our American legal and law enforcement systems to that of Aruba has given me pause.

My son is going to Europe soon and I've told him: "don't get into any trouble at all cuz we just don't know how they do things in other countries".

I for one, don't care if i ever step foot in another country for the rest of my life. I love our country. There so much to see and it's so beautiful.

Tims seems to be holding back

Didn't they just bring in more specialized equipment recently? Could they have detected a form in the water that appears like it could be Natalee and so they are anticipating that it will be her body? Plus, is anyone observing the Kalpoe brothers during this draining of the pond?

Civility has sunk to the deepths of recipient's perception. That is a by-product of the Post Baby Boomer generation.

I know, I'm funny. When people ask me what I do, I tell them I'm a comic. It always makes them laugh.

They seemed to have located the people responsible for her disappearance, and they have located things that suggest she met with foul play.

I don't see how you can be so sure they've located "located the people responsible for her disappearance." Up to this point, there seems to be little evidence of that.

And I'm not aware of any evidence whatsoever (again, up to this point), that shows "she met with foul play."

If you know of such evidence, I hope you'll post it.

And, again, she was on an island. Exactly how many places can you hide someone on an island? Certainly not in a pond.

I have no idea what to think of this "pond" thing. It doesn't seem likely to me she's there, either. I suppose we'll know soon if the "pond" thing turns out to yield real evidence, or is just another wild goose chase.

However, your question "Exactly how many places can you hide someone on an island?" ignores the possibility she was "shipped" to another island, or to the South American continent.

That's exactly how I feel. I traveled the US from Illinois through the West Coase and up north into BC and back through our national parks and grand vistas. I also traveled throughout Europe; a nice experience but I surely don't need to return. My feet are now firmly planted in the US and I've even let my passport expire.
