"House Majority Leader Tom DeLay said yesterday that the House will produce another immigration and border security bill this Congress and will have to pass that bill before turning to a guest-worker program.
...He said the House has received the message that immigration is "an incredibly important issue to the American people."
...Mr. DeLay said more security measures are needed and that the government has to prove it can enforce immigration laws before voters will be willing to accept a guest-worker program. He said the House will act on the issues in that order.
"We'll probably have a law-enforcement-type bill, working with the Senate and the administration," he said. "Once we convince the American people we can secure the borders and enforce the law, we can discuss what is also important in this mix -- and that is how to accommodate people from other parts of the [world] that want to come here, work temporarily and go back home. Some people call that a guest-worker program."
...Mr. DeLay said he supports an eventual guest-worker plan and said a consensus is developing in Congress on the need for one.
"Even Tom Tancredo has said we need a guest-worker program," Mr. DeLay said of the Colorado Republican who is a leader in the immigration control movement.
But Mr. DeLay has said such a program should apply only to workers who register from their home countries, not to illegal aliens already in the United States." -- The Washington Times
"Does anybody believe him?"
No. We are screwed. Too many Mexicans here already and we are never going to round them up and throw them out like we should.
There is no law giving 'anchor babies' citizenship. It is merely a custom. A law clarifying that would help things plenty.
BINGO! Now put your words to action and "convince the American people we can secure the borders and enforce the law"
We'll be watching..no half hearted attempts. With the right enforcement 90% of the illegals will get out on their own rather than face jail.
I believe they use a law that was made during the Civil War, and it would be almost impossible to end it. I think that is why the government is not serious about any immigration reform, because without clarifying or ending this law on anchor babies, it will be impossible to control illegal immigration.
ya know the clowns in DC just don't get it!
we don't need any more laws
all we need is for them to
ENFORCE THE LAWS ON THE BOOKS!
for pete's sakes!
hellooooooo???
is anybody home? LOL
If we keep rewarding illegal immigration, it will keep on ruining our country.
If we keep on electing idiots who don't realize that to most of us, the immigration issue is a HUGE issue - we stand a good chance of seeing another Clinton in the WH.
So far I haven;t heard a single one of our reps say the things I want to hear about stopping illegal immigration. All they seem to do is try to find was to reward the illegals, and make it palatable to the voting public.
I guess they are all going to be surprised when they don't keep their seats in congress. And sadly I have to include our President - who seems to have no understanding of how most of us view the illegal immigration issue.
All it is going to take is for someone to run on a platform of controlling illegal immigrant, whether or not he means it, and that could change the course of an election.
Are the people in the beltway so dense that they don't realize this?
Copied and pasted the link address, but it didn't work.
Can you try again?
I like Delay...however, I totally disagree with him on CAFTA...selling America out again.
Thank you, thank you Tom DeLay.
Next the baby issue!
I THOROUGHLY AGREE WITH YOU!!!
