Gee, if the rape of tourists was so rampant on Aruba, you'd think the public would have heard of it before now. I know many people who've gone to Aruba, but none of them ever mentioned being raped. Or even that people were getting raped.

Well Eddie, if you take a cruise on Holland American lines and it stops in Aruba the crew will warn you the locals like to rob and rape the tourists on their last evening on the island. The reason is so that the tourist will not have time to report it.

It really does appear that on this Aruba trip all the kids did what they wanted, when they wanted, and where they wanted. There was no "have fun but stay close together" mentality. Naive, foolish, and possibly deadly.

This is the difference between responsible and irresponsible chaperones.

Thousands of American kids travel abroad without any problems every year. They are usually well-supervised, and have a chaperone ratio of 1 chap. to 8 kids.

My son's godmother has been taking HS students to France, England, and Italy for 30 years now. She has had minor problems--like a kid who broke a leg--but never once had a child become a crime victim. She is a resposible, wary, alert, and dedicated teacher.

the date-rape drug GHB makes the victim behaviorally compliant, and THAT is precisely why it has become known as such. In larger than necessary dosages, it will cause complete unconsciousness and even death.

We don't know that she was drugged.

Of course I totally understand the Holloway family's anguish, but I hope they will step back for just a short time and try to take a more productive tack on this. If all the intensity of scrutiny now being placed on the Kalpoes and the van der Sloots by the media and the Holloway family were directed into other lines of inquiry, I think they'd have more hope of finding answers. Just my very humble opinion.

When you get the time, I would be interested in hearing what "other lines in inquiry" you think they should pursue.  I'm trying to keep an open mind, so I'm curious about what you're thinking.

They all left the club at closing time. Waiting for cabs. Her friends saw her "getting into a cab".They said she said she was going back to the HI. They said she's very reliable, person not given to changing her mind. Nothing has refuted it. The first reports ( go see earlier threads) has a mother stating the same thing.

The only reason I would suggest that the Holloways take a break back home for awhile is for their physical and mental health. Maybe a week's break. They do have another child who needs their support right now. Beth looks like she is on the edge of a very serious breakdown.

Eliz. Smart's mom did this every so often during the investigation and search. She let other family members take over. She was criticized for this, but she had other children to think of.

Thanks...I have seen young people wearing tshirts from both places and didn't know they were owned by the same company. Are the owners' aware of what goes on at C&C in Aruba...underage drinking, the 'booty' thingie, etc.?

I live in a cave; for all I know, the owners' could be encouraging this kind of stuff. Guess they don't have the kind of liability issues that restaurants/bars have in the US.
