MANIFESTO OF THE WPPFF/WILD TURKEYS/COALITION OF THE SANE
Me. | 29MARCH05 | Long Cut

Posted on 03/29/2005 8:58:34 AM PST by Long Cut

We, the Witness Protection Program For Freepers, aka the Wild Turkeys, aka the Coalition of the Sane, have through mutual discussion and rigourous thought, determined that:

1. The discussion threads regarding Terri Schiavo (hereafter referred to as "TS") have become too full of innuendo, rumormongering, hyperbole, hysteria, namecalling, paranoia, and general poor behavior to warrant participation.

2. Said threads have degenerated into "echo chambers", wherein the same, common thoughts are continually posted again and again, and the same old disreputable, unconfirmed and/or false urban myths are propagated.

3. Anyone who joins in said theads with alternative viewpoints to the most extreme posts are routinely driven away with slander, accusations, and vile namecalling.

4. No data or evidence contrary to the "prevailing opinions" are accepted, considered, or discussed; and in fact are rejected outright in most instances.

5. That the continued calls for armed insurrection, military or paramilitary involvement, impeachements of politicians and judges, and death threats are embarassing, stupid, shortsighted, doomed to failure, and contrary to most if not all conservative thought prior to this case, as well as damaging in the extreme to FR and the conservative movement as a whole.

6. That such emotional, hyperbolic, and propaganda-driven hysteria is in fact contrary to all conservatives USED to stand for.

7. That the holding up of swastika and other Nazi imagery towards the police and the Bushes, the use of children as political props, and the disruption of the peace at the Woodside Hospice can only reflect badly on conservatives in general, and should be discouraged.

8. That the pursuit of this issue to the exclusion of all others by the GOP has damaged, perhaps beyond repair, the pursuit of other important issues as well as the reputation of the GOP, FR, and conservatism.

The WPPFF is NOT of one mind as to the case of TS or its correct outcome. In fact, wide disagreement exists within our little group. However, we are united in our wish that reason and sanity be respected in the discussion, as well as the rights of all parties involved or participating. We wish to discuss this as adults and intellectuals, as conservatives and as FRiends, not as children screaming past each other on some playground of hysteria. We wish for facts and evidence to be provided, discussed reasonably, and considered fairly.

We reject all accusations of Naziism, "death cultism", or other slander as methods of debate. We reject the practice of "spamming" multiple threads, of posting unending vanities, and the posting of propaganda and calls for violence. We reject, in fact, all unseemly and childish behavior which has come to characterize this case on FR.

We DO invite others to come and reasonably discuss the issue. We have no problem with FReepers who wish to debate in a rational and fair manner, and with due respect for their fellow FReepers. We have NO problem with those whose views are formed by religion; however we reject "preaching" or "being beaten with a Bible" as legitemite debate tactics. Not all of us are Believers, and such tactics only cheapen the source.

If a FReeper finds this an acceptable meansd to discuss this and other issues, they are welcome to join in and participate. Those who find pleasure in attacks, flame-baiting, slander, stalking, and personal atacks will be ignored, and their egos will go unfed.

We assume this thread to be a zone of sanity in an overheated atmosphere. Thus, a general amnesty is in effect. If posters conduct themselves within the guidlines above, we will be happy to discuss and debate with you. If a poster wishes to apologize for past slips of the tongue, or for possible "over-the-top" statements to another, it will be graciously accepted, and your company welcome.

Please bring a sense of humor; we feel that too many have been taking themselves too seriously lately.

Let the discussion begin!

Signed,

The WPPFF, aka The Wild Turkeys, aka the Coalition of the Sane.

Did you catch the part where CC told Pat, "... your President, I mean, my President...."?

This was the post I directed you to.

You said "question" but anywho...

But that is where we are now. How far are we then from offing people who CAN speak for themselves and insist that they wish to live? Soon such a person will be told, “we’re sorry, but you cost $100K a year to keep alive and you only made $18K last year.. You do the math.”

I did the math...where's the additional money come from?

Context aside and based solely on that question and comment, I would say that legal instruments exist to take that person's property but I don't agree with it. But I'm not sure of your point so I'll let you lead.

Should we remove the tax excempt status of Church's?

I've never supported churches climbing in to bed with the state. 501(c)3's have lost any moral authority when they subjugated their message to the state's. Ironically, the pro-life message of church's placing little crosses was challenged based on that particular union. So sure, pull tax exempt status and let the churches keep all of their donations.

Universal health care?

Marxism?

What's your point?

What I saw was someone who hear a command and was struggling trying to do what was asked and did.

She opened her eyes after being asked to do so, that's for sure.

This video of Terri and her father is more than enough for me even though I saw the other videos a couple of years ago.

I can't make you be more specific. If you want to spell it out in an emphatic and concise opinion, go for it. Otherwise, I see it as a vague generality and likely strawman.

At first glance, knowing how to read is a common place thing, and really it is...at least that was what I thought. Little did I know I was being ignorant and underprivileged in my knowledge of the alarming statistical figures which show that many individuals (ranging from ages 8-adulthood) are not properly educated in terms of remedial reading, grammar/comprehension skills, interpretation and other such necessary terms to get through the world today.

I am sorry you fall into that group. I have no more time for games with you.

Unless of course you are 8.

It was a pathetic response.....

Speaking of responses I thought you'd get a kick out of this in case you did not see it already.

David Gregory (filling in on 'Spitball' for Chris Matthews) was interviewing Sen Santorum. Gregory was telling Rick that Howard Dean had said that Rick was a "marked man" in PA. (Ooooh!)

Gregory finished by asking, "Are you worried about Howard Dean?" With a little pleasant chuckle and smile Rick said, "I think the Democrats better worry about Howard Dean."

Gregory, being about as slimey as Chris Matthews, imo, couldn't help but laugh with Rick at his quick and funny retort.

;-)

I'm in the camp of applying new medical standards as they develop before a legal order is issued to remove a tube. I'd hate to think that someone who was once declared PVS under older medical standards really wasn't PVS when the order to remove the tube was issued.

That is very sensible.

You do know who Dr. H is right?

He is an alternative medicine doctor who advertises in the National Inquirer, insurance companies won't work with him, when asked by the court to back up his claims he has helped patients like Terri he couldn't back it up with one name, when asked to produce his fake Nobel Prize nomination, he couldn't do it, etc.

Trinity_Tx home page has a LOT more information on this fraud.

Here is Barry Goldwater's rebuke, to all of you hand wringers who are 'hysterical' because people are getting 'excited' or 'emotional' because an innocent women is getting cruelly put to death.

I would remind you that extremism in the defense of liberty is no vice! And let me remind you also that moderation in the pursuit of justice is no virtue!

You have been weighed in the balance and been found wanting... NO VIRTUE!

You might wish to read how Terri's friend changed her testimony from the deposition (where she said MS and Terri were happy) to her trial testimony (after she'd been coached).

LOL.

No Dr. H is labeled a quack because under oath he could not substantiate his claim that he has helped victims like Terri. He couldn't produce one record of one patient's name. Not one.

When asked to bring his Nobel Prize nomination to court, he couldn't do it. And the official Nobel prize say they never nominated him to anything.

He is an alternative medicine doctor. Insurance companies won't work with him. He advertises in the National Inquirer.

You might want to reconsider when relying on his testimony.
