For all of those who have called me every imaginable name because I dare to suggest that there are some things worse than death...I don't wish you on you anything that poor woman goes through on a minute by minute basis. Because you know so much, and are so sure that you are right because you are all so freakin self-righteous...I'm leaving FreeRepublic because I no longer want to be a part of something that has become so twisted. Hannity is right, this website has been hijacked. It was a good run...but we'll find another place. Save your jabs, I won't be reading them. To those who have privately agreed with me, and there are many, thank you. I'm just worn out and frankly, don't even care what most here think.
sure there are things worse than death. killing the innocent, for example.
Don't let the door spank you on the way out.
Living in California? Yep some things are worse than Death.
We need to Pull the Plug NOW! ;^) Just kiddn
Short opus....
Good luck, Hildy ....
Methinks its more you, not getting us, to believe your view is the right way. May God never let this happen to a child of yours.
Or torturing someone who wants to die by keeping her alive aginst her will.
yeah, maybe you're right. Starvation and dehydration ain't that bad!
I read some of your posts on the Schiavo interest. You are/were clueless. Too bad we're losing an old-timer though.
Buh-bye.
"Or torturing someone who wants to die by keeping her alive aginst her will."
You know the only "evidence" that death would be what she wanted is the heresay assertion of some off-hand remark she made after watching a TV movie. I'd hate to die because someone remembered I'd once said "just kill me if THAT ever happened" once upon a time.
Unfortunately she's not the first and she won't be the last.
And I've said more here today about Terri Schiavo than I ever had before. I guess I better shut up now, lest I find myself denounced by Sean Hannity and Opinion Journal.com
I know where you are coming from, and please just take a few weeks off.
Your perspective will be renewed and you will realize that these Terry threads are not really FR. They are populated largely by those who will not even be here when this matter does come to a close.
For those FR members of long standing who have participated in insult and impertinence, I can only say they are few.
Take a break, you did a fine job explaining this in a neutral fashion. But they want a cheering section. We cannot allow ourselves to be affected by it.
Euthenasia is a very slippery slope. The question is not whether some ways of living are worse than death (I can think of two just off the top of my head), but "Who decides?"
When the decision is irreversable it's not a trivial question, thus we are morally compelled to err on the side of life.
If you think this forum should be turned into another ideology reinforcement site, like all the FR imitators/spinoffs became, where unattractive opinions are censored, you are quite mistaken. Besides, you should know enough by now to know Hannity is all flash and no substance, while FR is precisely the opposite.
Believe me, I understand what you are talking about.

Hope you'll reconsider. We don't really like "preaching to the choir," contrary to some people's opinion. Sometimes, we get a bit flip in our frustrations, and sometimes we even become loose cannons. That's why we're called activists. I personally wouldn't want to post on a site where there wasn't a little fire in the belly of those posting.
I can't speak for all here, but I think what many here fear is the slippery slope. Go to a site called, "Not Dead Yet," and read about how the Holocaust began. It started with the disabled children. The Nazis didn't start with the Jews, but disabled children aged 1-3. Abortions were required by any who'd been empregnated by genetic inferiors. (Social Dawinism)(The state given the power to allow abortion, can also REQUIRE it) They then decided ages 1-17 would be more efficient. They first exempted the Jews believing they didn't deserve "such a quiet death." Even the Nazis were distressed that the starvation took too long, so they then used poison injected directly into the heart. By the time they decided that disabled adults also should be given this quiet death, they had graduated to gassing and set up killling stations all over Germany. when they finally got around to the Jews they had perfected the final solution. Before the Jews, there were 80,000 disabled Ayrans exterminated.
Hildy is a long time freeper, loved by many. I will miss her.
Someone who has been with us since we first sounded the alarm about the Clintons.
Been a little while since we had a good Opus.
I give it a 7.
