Federal Agents Discover Illegal Tunnel at Mexican Border
The Associated Press
Published: Feb 25, 2005 CALEXICO, Calif. (AP) - Federal agents on Friday discovered a clandestine tunnel that may have been built to smuggle drugs and possibly people from Mexico to the United States.

The tunnel was found on the U.S. side of the border fence in Calexico, about 120 miles east of San Diego, said Lauren Mack, a spokeswoman for the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. It was about 20 feet underground, measuring 3 feet in diameter and reinforced with wood and plastic. Agents found rubber tubing possibly intended for ventilation.

U.S. and Mexican authorities had not determined where the tunnel originated and ended - or even if it was completed, said Mack.

Federal authorities have discovered at least 12 tunnels along the U.S.-Mexico border since Sept. 11, 2001, some of them only partially completed, Mack said.

The latest discovery was made using surveying tools that Mack declined to explain in detail.

Last year, Homeland Security began using technology developed by geophysicists to pinpoint suspicious terrain. Previously, it relied on human intelligence and sheer luck, such as when a Border Patrol agent in Calexico struck a sink hole in 2003.

Ahhh, and there's the rub. Many people who want the flood of illegal aliens to stop want that precisely because of the murder and mayhem that the criminal element brings with them.

For those people, myself included, someone who tells us that our cause is neither right nor just becomes an advocate for the criminal illegals...and their murderous ways. We see things in black and white...you're either with us, or against us. I like people, such as my President, who feel and think that way.

Therefore, it should come as no surprise to you that the people you speak out against look at you as being against them. That's why I asked you about MS-13 a few days ago. I really do find it nearly impossible to understand a person who speaks out against those who oppose unchecked border crossing when the evidence of evil crossing the border is so prevalent.

Since our country has had such lousy success weeding out the good from the bad, the only solution to keeping the bad from crossing at other than POEs it to keep all from crossing outside the POEs.

Does that level of discourse make sense to you?

That's sick. You are so far from advancing the debate that you are actually damaging and marinalizing those for whom illegal immigration is a key issue.

Way to play the Nazi card! What other tired canards do you have in your quiver? If you haven't called anyone a communist yet, I suggest you use that next.

IMO those who deliberately _break_ the law for their own benefit should not be afforded protection _by_ the law. Especially those who do not support the country - I'm not talking about their political views but by their material, physical contributions to the economy and the general welfare and defense of its inhabitants (i.e. citizens and those legally here aspiring to be citizens).

If they somehow feel that they may be denied access (and the US, to its detriment, rarely forbids those seeking entry) then, MAYBE, it's for a good reason(?).

When you're not legally in a country, and therefore are a potential financial or physical liability to the legal inhabitants of the country, you should not be accorded the full rights held by those others and your 'basic human rights' do not necessarily include being allowed to do something just because you want to do it or feel you deserve to be allowed to do it.

Okay, I agree with the position that illegal immigration is a problem. Advocating gassing people who illegally enter this country, even in jest, is a bit extreme to me.

I do not think illegal immigration is a victimless crime, it's not a violent crime either. And no it's not safe to assume that every illegal immigrant might be a murderer, rapist or armed robber.

I think our government should take an unequivocal stand against illegal immigration. I also think that the government and ruling class of our neighbor to the south should be put on notice that their complicity will no longer be tolerated.

Partially rhetorical question:
If you _know_ that you will have next-to-zero rights rights when you illegally enter this country (and will be dragged on your heels back to the border - without such amenities as a free meal and going potty first - and face-tattooed for future recognition - yeah, 'mark of the beast' crap and all that - before getting the boot; oh, and don't even THINK about being fed if you wind up in prison for killing someone here) ARE you going to take the chance OR will you try doing it the RIGHT way?

And spray painting all the highway signs and closed store fronts, to add a nice, sweet, homey touch of art to landscape, that us Americans won't do, too.!!~

There's some on the walls of my complex as we speak. It's been painted out and painted out...ad nauseum.

Yesterday, a Freeper rationalized a borderless country because "God created us as free man."

Yet they still think they're Conservatives. God help us.

I read where one Border Wedgie said he would vote for the devil himself if he were to promise to "close the border."

I don't want this to overshadow all the good things he's done.

Unfortunately it does. It overshadows everything he does.

God help us indeed...

AND God help Free Republic.

A few of the same Open Border Bot cultists are spamming every single Immigration Thread as though they're on someone's payroll.

Hmmm, wait a minute...

These caves not only connect from Mexico to Texas; but using all the cave mappling, you can go from Texas to the midwest or southwest undetected.

Any comment on the advocacy of the use of phosgene gas against supposed adminstrative misdemeanors as seen in #59?

Hm, I missed it, and it's been yanked. Hard to comment on it if I haven't seen it. Based on your post and others it sounds pretty bad.
