Federal Agents Discover Illegal Tunnel at Mexican Border
Published: Feb 25, 2005 CALEXICO, Calif. (AP) - Federal agents on Friday discovered a clandestine tunnel that may have been built to smuggle drugs and possibly people from Mexico to the United States.
The tunnel was found on the U.S. side of the border fence in Calexico, about 120 miles east of San Diego, said Lauren Mack, a spokeswoman for the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. It was about 20 feet underground, measuring 3 feet in diameter and reinforced with wood and plastic. Agents found rubber tubing possibly intended for ventilation.
U.S. and Mexican authorities had not determined where the tunnel originated and ended - or even if it was completed, said Mack.
Federal authorities have discovered at least 12 tunnels along the U.S.-Mexico border since Sept. 11, 2001, some of them only partially completed, Mack said.
The latest discovery was made using surveying tools that Mack declined to explain in detail.
Last year, Homeland Security began using technology developed by geophysicists to pinpoint suspicious terrain. Previously, it relied on human intelligence and sheer luck, such as when a Border Patrol agent in Calexico struck a sink hole in 2003.

The way we secure that border, I am surprised that it doesn't have 8 lanes and built in cellular coverage.

With a McDonald's...
Does the Mexican government offer "How to build safer tunnels" booklets for distribution?
Well said. Perhaps the border wedgies like to imply or charge that our leaders and civil servants are hopelessly corrupt, but I have nothing but admiration for all the hard and tireless and thankless work they do day in and day out. Indeed, at every rare arrest of a corrupt officer at his or her border post or government office, it shows that our system of self-governance is working, and quite well.

Actually, they are *BEGGING* for someone to take notice of the Criminal Invasion and send HELP!
But, instead, they get YOU guys! lol sigh
...a guest tunnel worker program is in the wings...
Tunnels? I guess that blows the "fence" plan.

Not at all. It highlights the need. Ask Israel about tunnels and terrorism.
The new PC phrase I read here the other day is "out of status". So it's actually an "out of status tunnel" now.
The Self-Appointed Avenging Angel of Death? Do you know him? I'd like to buy him a drink and exchange cell phone numbers.
Guest tunnel worker program, *LOL*!!
We must tell the president! He'll protect us.
/sarcasm
So why are people so upset with the Minute Man project? American citizens have a constitutional right to defend and protect their property and lives. Remember the thrashing "militias" got under Clinton's presidency? Well militias are called for in our very own constitution, which is being subverted daily at a high rate of speed. Send them out to do the job law enforcement is unable to do.
As for the tunnels...well no sh*t. We've been invaded by foreign nationals right under our very noses.
So, are you happy they got through? Is your statement an attempt to prove that the border should remain open?
It would seem that, if you were for controlled borders (I don't believe you are) that finding this tunnel would be good news.
Once again you have been caught inciting others.
Never. Feel free to post some links.
Tell that to the old woman who was run down and killed by an illegal alien, who was high on meth. I noticed that you were missing from that thread. He swerved onto the sidewalk and nailed her....
Btw, he had already been kicked out of the US once before.
Now, now, I don't wish that. I'm not a seminar poster, I really do like him but I can't understand why he doesn't see the urgency of this problem or thinks it's only about jobs. I don't want this to overshadow all the good things he's done. I want him to be one of the all-time great presidents, and I think he has it within reach.
It will.
"Never. Feel free to post some links."
Lol, can't wait for those links.
And these same FR Open Border Lobbiest goofballs consider anything less than a 100% rate a failure should the Bush Administration beef up the BP's resources to reasonable levels.
Terminex should be so good at exterminating cockroaches.
Heh!
