Not so ‘Free Republic’: The Shot Heard Around the Net
The Conservative Voice ^ | Feb 11, 2005 | by William Gheen, President, Americans for Legal Immigration PAC

Posted on 02/11/2005 10:55:36 AM PST by Jim Robinson

The shot heard around the Internet has been fired on FreeRepublic.com The owner Jim Robinson and his moderators have launched a sniper style purge against members that disagree with the President’s ‘guest worker’ amnesty or support more control of illegal immigration. Free Republic is an amazing tool for those looking for a good debate and news from around the country.

The problem for the administration of the site is that their creation is allowing the participants to learn that the Bush immigration record and plans are shockingly out of line with the views of most conservatives. The management’s answer to this conflict between the majority of conservatives and the influence of the White House on their Web site has become electronic executions and censorship.

Members and readers of Free Republic would be surprised to know that many members of their community have fallen silent on the discussions about illegal immigration lately because free speech is an illusion on FR.com. They are silent because they have been banned from the Web site without warning, cause, or explanation in most cases. For weeks the moderators have been suspending and banning new members that chimed in quickly on the immigration debates.

Now this trend has broadened as the first groups of long-term users were suspended or banned this past week. Although Robinson and his staff removed many members of the Free Republic community in the first few days of the purge, those that religiously support President Bush’s immigration plan, open borders and approve of public benefits for illegal aliens remain on the forum. Those that were banned were the members that wanted more done to control illegal immigration and a strict observance to the President’s Oath of Office.

Double Wow. This is a test or some kind of joke right? and yet you signed up in 1999. Your quote is from Theodore Roosevelt...that is why at the end of the quote...you wrote "--Theodore Roosevelt" FDR is not "Theodore Roosevelt." They are 2 different President from different political parties.

You're right about Theordore Roosevelt, my apologies. His quote still stands righteously though.

Hmmmm...if you want more done to control illegal immigration, why have you never shown up on an immigration thread here on FR?

That's the problem with all the folks here that claim they want more done. They never go to the threads and voice their concern or opinion.

Jim clams the same thing, but he also stated illegal immigration is not an issue to him.

That seems to be to case with most Freepers. They claim they are against illegal immigration, but it's really not an issue to them.

IMO, if it is not an issue worth discussing on this forum, then your not against it.

And you STILL fall back to the "lying race-baiter" canard - you play the "race-baiting" just as often as some of the left play the "race card" - every single time.

It is impossible for me to conduct further discussion with someone as intellecutally bankrupt and dishonest as yourself. You are a liar. You have constantly fired off smears at those who have viewed this issue differently than you, and you have spent much time claiming that Jim Robinson has been "misled" by a pack of "lying race-baiters" and that we have brought the division in FR upon it.

I'll be frank - perhaps it might not have occured to you that some of the folks who might have been posting were worried that the posts WERE violating the rules, specifically, the "no racism" rule? It never occured to you? Or were you too busy trying to enforce your own form of "political correctness" on this issue and debate, one in which you had control over the terms and issues involved?

Jim Robinson is making the calls, not me. He's obviously run at least one google serach on this matter. But I suppose it is easier for you to cast blame upon people like me, Luis Gonzalez, Dane, Cultural Jihad, bayourod, sinkspur, and others for this mess. After all, we dared to disagree with your notions and dared to think for ourselves - I suppose that must be unforgivable for those who are convincedtheir way is the only right way to do things.

In that sense, you're not that unlike the NAACP, as well. Look how they treat folks who have left that plantation. The same sort of smears and card have been played by that group to keep folks in line. Quite frankly, I had hoped conservatives would be able to rise above those tactics. I guess I was wrong...

I'm still trying to figure out why the 95% of Freepers who oppose open borders are racist vigilantes.

Has it occurred to you that there might have been some people posting here who've usde the race card as an attempt to silence dissent?

Baloney. Let me use your logic.

I haven't seen you on any of the Terri Schiavo threads.

You must be in favor of starving her to death.

See my post above...2974.

I'm not going to stand by and see divisive...but admittedly very clever 'tactics' being used to divide the conservative movement...and usher in the Age of Hillary.

Terri Schiavo is not an issue to me.

And illegal immigration, frankly, is not an issue to me, or some others around here. I care about it, but not that much.

I was just showing you the illogic of your accusation that, because someone doesn't post on a thread, he must be in favor of or opposed to whatever is being discussed, based on your biases.

Or were you too busy trying to enforce your own form of "political correctness" on this issue and debate, one in which you had control over the terms and issues involved?

That's the crux right there hutch, If you dare question them they(spiff, marine inspector, etc.etc) automatically bring out the race card.

Now where have we seen this before, from the shaprton's, jackson's, and farakhan's of the world.

JMO, there is not a dimes worth of rhetorical difference between the sharpton's and gheen's of the world.

The one political difference is that a modern American political party welcomes such rhetoric(democrats welcoming sharpton's and jackson's divisive rhtoric) while the other modern American poltical party, the Republican's, reject such rhetoric.

I was not trying to be logical.

The point, many folks are jumping into this thread with their illogical argument that they have never been banned for being against illegal immigration, when they have never given their opinion on the issue in the first place.

They are just here to kiss some butt and agree with Jim.

BS, that's your side’s tactic and it's been proven many times on this thread alone.

And that's where you're lying again. We sometimes post threads and posts about illegal immigration and the lack of border security and we get called racists and xenophobes. We don't "bring out the race card" the people on your team do - and quickly - and often - by calling us racist, xenophobe, bigots and such. And that's the truth.
