The shot heard around the Internet has been fired on FreeRepublic.com The owner Jim Robinson and his moderators have launched a sniper style purge against members that disagree with the Presidents guest worker amnesty or support more control of illegal immigration. Free Republic is an amazing tool for those looking for a good debate and news from around the country.
The problem for the administration of the site is that their creation is allowing the participants to learn that the Bush immigration record and plans are shockingly out of line with the views of most conservatives. The managements answer to this conflict between the majority of conservatives and the influence of the White House on their Web site has become electronic executions and censorship.
Members and readers of Free Republic would be surprised to know that many members of their community have fallen silent on the discussions about illegal immigration lately because free speech is an illusion on FR.com. They are silent because they have been banned from the Web site without warning, cause, or explanation in most cases. For weeks the moderators have been suspending and banning new members that chimed in quickly on the immigration debates.
Now this trend has broadened as the first groups of long-term users were suspended or banned this past week. Although Robinson and his staff removed many members of the Free Republic community in the first few days of the purge, those that religiously support President Bushs immigration plan, open borders and approve of public benefits for illegal aliens remain on the forum. Those that were banned were the members that wanted more done to control illegal immigration and a strict observance to the Presidents Oath of Office.
The "guest worker" proposal is actually Vicente Fox's plan.
See you in April...:O
Gotcha.
I thank God everyday for your site, Jim. My wife however, thinks that I belong to a secret cult or an illicit chat room, because she sees me typing and never bothers to see what I'm doing. Oh well..
Regarding illegal immigration. I was with the LAPD in the early 70's. I remember getting a disturbance call and we found 17 illegals living in one house! Even at that time the orders from the city were to do nothing. The invasion started long ago.
You are correct, Breyer on SCOTUS probably wouldn't, but Scalia and Thomas would.
Look who cares that the Mexican govt. is trying to overturn Prop. 200, they can't, the people who will try to overturn it would be a Clinton/Carter packed 9th circus court in San Francisco.
Or at least, no more than you care about mine.
Now, I want you to do me a favor, and I am asking in the nicest way possible...please do not post to me any longer, there is absolutely no reason for you and I to communicate as I am convinced that we will nevr agree on a thing.
Rule #3: Do keep it clean - A bruise or two between Freepers is tolerable, but refrain from abusive attacks, engaging in senseless flame wars, and using profane language. Considering the range of topics we discuss, it's hard to be a family site, but that's what we aim for when at all possible.
Then return the favor. You've asked me that before and I accomodated that --- until you posted to me. It cannot be one way you know.
I think we should care when Mexico starts writing it's stupid comic books, fails to support us with the war in Iraq, condemns the voters of America for not wanting to do what the Mexican government has never wished to do for it's citizens.
The whole massive immigration problem originates in that corrupt but wealthy country and that's where the best fix can take place. It's not going to get fixed until we actually stand up and tell them it's time to get it done because we're not going to continue this.
Exactly!
We can make our points without personal insults.
Your concern of the internal problems of Mexico is not displaced, but its focus is. We do not have the luxury of waiting for the social, political, and economic conditions in Mexico to improve before we try to reform our immigration policies.
Youre against illegal immigration, so you can't call anyone a liar. The other folks only claim to be against illegal immigration and are friends with the management, so they can call you a liar.
Yes, it is a double standard, but it's one that's been going on for years and is supported by management. It's just something we have to deal with.
Anyway, it just takes away from the site as everyone can see the hypocrisy of the management and those they protect.
It can, if you know the right people. ;)
Amnesty is not immigration reform.
