Not so ‘Free Republic’: The Shot Heard Around the Net
The Conservative Voice ^ | Feb 11, 2005 | by William Gheen, President, Americans for Legal Immigration PAC

Posted on 02/11/2005 10:55:36 AM PST by Jim Robinson

The shot heard around the Internet has been fired on FreeRepublic.com The owner Jim Robinson and his moderators have launched a sniper style purge against members that disagree with the President’s ‘guest worker’ amnesty or support more control of illegal immigration. Free Republic is an amazing tool for those looking for a good debate and news from around the country.

The problem for the administration of the site is that their creation is allowing the participants to learn that the Bush immigration record and plans are shockingly out of line with the views of most conservatives. The management’s answer to this conflict between the majority of conservatives and the influence of the White House on their Web site has become electronic executions and censorship.

Members and readers of Free Republic would be surprised to know that many members of their community have fallen silent on the discussions about illegal immigration lately because free speech is an illusion on FR.com. They are silent because they have been banned from the Web site without warning, cause, or explanation in most cases. For weeks the moderators have been suspending and banning new members that chimed in quickly on the immigration debates.

Now this trend has broadened as the first groups of long-term users were suspended or banned this past week. Although Robinson and his staff removed many members of the Free Republic community in the first few days of the purge, those that religiously support President Bush’s immigration plan, open borders and approve of public benefits for illegal aliens remain on the forum. Those that were banned were the members that wanted more done to control illegal immigration and a strict observance to the President’s Oath of Office.

Apparently you haven't gotten around to purging me Jim since I oppose illegals as much as anyone.

Om the other hand I have been trying to control a lifetime problem with profanity and I apologize about that in advance. Too many years exposed to too many Marines.

To prevent the border crossers from Texas and New Mexico alone would require a standing Army of 3 Million

Actually it'd take 10 million or more. What's required is a serious effort to change the conditions here that enable illegals. The beginning took place rather quietly a week ago with the passage in the House of a law that forces states not to issue driver's licenses to illegal aliens. If we reduce rights of appeal to illegals and refuse to ever offer citizenship to intercepted illegals the pool would begin to shrink.

I don't know why Sabertooth was banned, but the forum is lacking because of it.

And now you've got me curious about the article your brother was suspended for. :-)

Then there is the other question: What makes you think that people that have been breaking the law for years will all of a sudden decide to start following it?

Excellent question!!!

And one the pro-amnesty folks will never be able to answer with any credibility.

What if the AG refuses to enforce the law, as just happened in Arizona?

No.

Hope this helps.

Best of luck with your problems.

See #1716 for why it is an amnesty.

You seem to be admitting to being pro-illegal, considering you are anti-"anti-illegal".

BTW, your "reasoning" is just like the rest of the pro-amnesty types--just pull out the race card as usual.

You are nothing but hypocrites and liars.

Now it's heading to the personal insults category. We're not supposed to do that.

We're not supposed to, but the mods can...

RE: You will soon learn what is meant by economic reality.

Cute response.

The federal execute branch has the Social Security Administration, I believe.

The SSA has a huge file called the Earnings Suspense File (ESF).

The ESF has tens of thousands of employer-submitted W-2 earnings documents per tax year.

Those documents contain millions of phony / stolen SSNs that do not match SSA's Master Earnings File using SSN / name.

The SSA tries everything to make a match. After that they send "no match" letters to employers who have at least ten employees with bogus SSNs. Some 130,000 employers each tax year I believe get the letters.

The SSA sends "no match" letters to the employees. More than nine million each tax years I believe.

Local folks don't have control over those data. The feds have done the work. They just need the will to do something.

I'll save you some trouble should you be compelled to reply.

No, I don't say "round 'em up." They were invited here IMO by government and business ignoring the law. Let them stay with a status similar to permanently residing under the color of law (PRUCOL). They may have some necessary privileges such as DLs and they may get into line to become citizens if they choose.

Then start enforcing existing law. Just a simple boyhood dream of a Nation of Laws I've had for many, many decades.

Well why don't you try to do something constructive like get your local city police department or precinct constable or local sheriff or whatever to simply enforce the immigration laws in your little area.

How can they? The INS won't take them. You've been informed of this many times but have chose to ignore it. The Feds have repeatedly told the state and local authorities that enforcing immigration law is a federal matter.

This is why states are having to resort to cutting off benefits to the illegals. Unfortunately, these laws are almost always overturned by judge shopping.

The only way to make this work is the criminalize the hiring of illegals. And when I mean criminalize, I mean serious jail time. Unlike the failed war or drugs, companies don't hire and work illegals in the privacy of their own homes.

Also, any illegals should be transported to a deportation center near the border immediately and held until they are deported. If they leave families behind, tough.

Do you have any problems with this approach?

Tancredo may be a flawed spokesmen for this cause-I myself still resent the fact that he reneged on his initial pledge to serve only three terms in the House of Representatives-however, he needs to be given credit for being the only Republican-with a few notable exceptions-to stand up to the Bush administration on the issue of curtailing the unremitting stream of illegal immigration into this country.

Rep. Jeff 'Please Pretend My Amnesty Ain't An Amnesty' Flake (R-AZ) also pledged the same thing and reneged on that promise. I guess Tancredo had to stay in to help block Flake's (and Kolbe's) amnesty garbage.

"The INS won't take them. You've been informed of this many times but have chose to ignore it. The Feds have repeatedly told the state and local authorities that enforcing immigration law is a federal matter. "

That was under Clinton. Bush had Gonzales take another look at the law and issued an Executive Order finding that local agencies do have authority to enforce immigration laws.

The CBP followed up by instituting training programs for any local agencies desiring training.

Here is one article about a bill in Arkansas to establish state enforcement, but such a bill probably isn't necessary.

"the pro-amnesty folks will never be able to answer with any credibility"

If twenty people decided to register, the plan would be deemed successful in their eyes. Heck, it might be less than twenty.

My company produced these things--13 of them as I recall. As is typical with most such programs, there were many speedbumps along the way but eventually our aircraft division guys got it all under control and delivered an excellent weapon system. I'm semi-retired now, and I don't know whether the Air Force ever ordered any more of them.

You guys are a riot! LOL!!!

We had two boys and they did some of the same kinds of things. Oh my!
Our house was the house where they all came. Most of what they did was eat, though! Cleaned us out of house and home!!!
Our 2 guys played the piano and guitar, saxophone and harmonica. Although, not at the same time. They just simply had a ball doing "boy kinds" of things! Almost wore out their Dad and me!

I hope you both live close to one another so you can let your children visit. And if you don't live close. Think about a visit. ;-)

Also, glad to know you had chaperones! We were those folks with our boys and their comtempories.

Youth is wonderful! I loved our boys and their friends as teens! They were great fun to be around!

They kept us young at the same time!

Tancredo's not alone anymore thankfully, there's a large pro-borders movement in the House and across the country and it's growing by the day.

Only in your dreams. Tancredo is too much of an extremest to gather any real following. Buchanan never attracted more than 1%-2% of voters so his mini-me Tancredo isn't going to get any more than that..
